Summary Of Position:

The Director of Communications and Marketing directs the department’s overall Communications efforts specified by the Chamber’s Plan of Action and by the department’s Vice President. The Director has primary responsibility for all publications development and written content for the Chamber’s marketing and communications vehicles.

Principal Accountabilities:

Oversee research, writing and content development for all Chamber marketing and communications vehicles.

Write copy for invitations, reports, brochures and other materials, ensuring consistency of message.

Write and edit the Chamber’s e-mail newsletter.

Assist Event Coordinator and Chamber staff; and volunteers with speeches, talking points, presentations and PowerPoint slides for Chamber events and programs as needed.

Proof copy for all projects prior to print.

Develop and coordinate the Chamber’s local marketing campaign.

Manage the Chamber’s local, regional and national media relations activities, including writing and distributing news releases to the media and coordinating Chamber news conference and briefings.

Serve as a media spokesperson for the Chamber and develops a good working relationship with all media.

Assist all Chamber departments with developing and implementing marketing and communications plans for Chamber events and programs.

Content Development for and Other Chamber Websites:

Develop content for web sites, including individual page content, blog postings and online marketing copy.

Work with Director of Digital Media and Design to ensure all content is up-to-

date.

Other Activities:

Coordinates video and printed annual report of Chamber accomplishments and all other video production service for the Chamber and Annual Meeting.

Coordinates college intern program in marketing and communications.

Assist with the development of the communications and marketing Plan of Action and department budget.

Assists Chamber members in marketing and communications activities.

Personally visits at least three Chamber members per month for the purpose of building goodwill and gathering information to share on members’ needs and opinions.

Performs other tasks as outlined by the Vice President of Communications and Marketing.

Active in coordinating the Chamber’s Annual Meeting and the Chamber’s State of the City and CountyLuncheon.

Areas OfDelegated Responsibilities:

Supervises and assists with the hiring of Communications and Marketing Assistant and other support staff in the department.

Education/Experience:

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a field related to journalism and communications and at least five years public relations experience. Superior writing; computer and graphic design skills; basic journalism skills such as proofreading, photography, advertising, writing news releases, interviewing and working audio-visual equipment; ability to work with Chamber staff; ability to handle diverse duties; and posses ability to work under pressure. Must be able to effectively deal with volunteers, the media and the public in a congenial manner. Ability to perform duties with minimum supervision is required.*
