Position Title: Assistant Director of Athletics for Student Athlete Development,

Diversity and Inclusion

Supervisor: Director of Athletics

Classification: Administrative Management, full-time, 11 months, exempt

This person serves under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics. This role is primarily responsible for oversight of all student athlete development programming.

They will collaborate with and have secondary reporting lines to the Director of Prevention Education and the Director of Multicultural Life.

Key Job Responsibilities:

1)  Contribute to the overall operation, vision and leadership of the Department of Athletics and Recreation.

a.  Assist the Director with reviewing practices, policies, and initiatives associated with the Department to ensure that they promote a culture of diversity and inclusion and meet the needs of diverse student populations;

b.  Participate in the annual Student Affairs Divisional and Department of Athletics and Recreation strategic planning and annual reporting efforts;

c.  Regularly identify critical elements of the Department that require assessment of learning or evaluation of services/needs, conduct those assessments, share findings with appropriate audiences, and make adjustments to internal programs and practices based on data and evidence;

d.  Work with supervisor to develop an annual professional development plan that will ensure awareness of trends, best practices, new information, etc. related to athletics, recreation, student development, leadership and diversity and inclusion practices and skills;

e.  Lead and participate in Divisional and College-wide committees and initiatives;

f.  Perform other duties as assigned.

2)  Serve as member of the senior leadership team in the Department of Athletics and Recreation.

a.  Serve as supervisory member of game management staff in each season;

b.  Co-advise Student Athlete Advisory Committee with SWA;

c.  Attend quarterly Centennial Conference meetings and serve as administrative delegate;

d.  Assist in planning and execution of all special events (golf outings, hall of fame banquet etc.).

3)  Develop and implement student athlete leadership programming.

a.  Develop, assess and coordinate implementation of StepUP pro-social bystander intervention program for student athletes;

b.  Recruit and train team of student athlete peer facilitators annually;

c.  Serve as part of Leadership Collaborative across the Division of Student Affairs to integrate leadership efforts with others across campus;

d.  Coordinate student athlete development initiatives involving campus experts or external agencies.

4)  Provide prevention education for student athletes AND serve as member of college’s Prevention Education team.

a.  Establish and maintain transparent connections with campus prevention programming for the athletic department;

b.  Collaborate with coaches and lead implementation of prevention programming for student athletes;

c.  Assist Director of Prevention Education on select campus-wide programming initiatives.

5)  Serve as Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for Department of Athletics and Recreation.

a.  Develop and implement ongoing, transparent programming connections with the Office of Multicultural Life;

b.  Collaborate with Multicultural Life to establish on-going programming to support student-athletes from under-represented groups and integrate those individuals into the larger community;

c.  Foster greater integration between athletics and other departments (both academic and administrative) on campus when it comes to work on issues related to diversity & inclusion;

d.  Work with Admissions to develop a strategic plan for the recruitment of a more diverse student athlete population;

e.  Build systems within athletics that help realize the potential in the recruitment of a more diverse student athlete population.

Qualifications:

1.  Master's degree in related field preferred; Bachelor’s Degree plus commensurate level of experience and training will be considered;

2.  Experience as a college student athlete required;

3.  3-5 years of experience working in college athletics, multicultural life or student leadership preferred;

4.  Commitment to the mission and goals of Muhlenberg College and the Division of Student Affairs;

5.  Strong commitment to and demonstrated skills for working with a diverse student population;

6.  Ability to work autonomously as well as with a team;

7.  Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends;

8.  Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;

9.  Ability to lead and motivate students;

10.  Ability to organize and direct multiple activities simultaneously;

11.  Ability to identify, develop, implement and evaluate new student-related programs;

12.  Ability to work with computers and related software.
