Summary:Responsible for overall patient dental services at the Center. Performs professional dental care in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Performs administrative functions of planning and directing the dental programs within the dental department. Expected to consistently work to ensure patient satisfaction and maintain positive relationships with other dentists, physicians, and staff to help support the delivery of quality patient care. Performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission of Peoples Community Health Clinic (PCHC).

Essential Functions:

Responsible for planning of dental services
Responsible for staffing of dentists, dental hygienists, and dental office staff
Responsible for day-to-day operations of dental services within the clinic
Maintains positive community relations
Performs patient oral examinations
Diagnoses of patient oral health
Prescribes or administers treatment.
Uses effective clinical judgement in referring patients and receiving referrals.
Maintains an accurate dental record to support clinical and documentation requirements.
Works to ensure patient satisfaction
Maintains positive relationships with other dentists, physicians, staff and health care students
Plans, implements and/or administers treatment protocols
Supports clinic staff meetings and adheres to guidelines
Supports a service-oriented atmosphere in accordance with PCHC’s Mission and Philosophy.
Adheres to policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Qualifications:

Education / Graduate of an accredited School of Dentistry and licensed in the State of Iowa and board certified
Experience / Preferably experience with adult and pediatric population, but not necessary. Public health management experience preferred, but not necessary.
Cognitive Skills (Language, Math, Reasoning Ability) / High language, high math, high reasoning ability.
Computer Skills / Ability to function in a Windows based environment
Other Skills / Ability to work within a team setting and to relate to the special needs of the patient population.
Certificates & Licenses / Must complete all requirements necessary for the practice of dentistry in Iowa including: (a) state agreements for payment of dental health services under Medicare and Medicaid, (b) DEA permission to prescribe and maintain controlled substances, (c) malpractice insurability, (d) Iowa dental license, (e) board certification required in specialty area (f) member of ADA and IDA, (g) maintains current CPR certification, (h) maintains continuing educational requirements
Work Environment Hazards / Bloodborne pathogen hazard to eyes, hands and torso, puncture/penetration hazard to hands, particulates and blood/body fluid hazard to respiratory.
Personal Protective Equipment Required / Goggles, face shield, glasses with side protection, latex gloves, vinyl gloves, impervious gown, impervious lab coat, surgical mask, isolation mask.
Physical Demands Summary (See Physical Abilities Analysis for detailed requirements) / Moderate standing and walking, lifting 10-25 lbs. with good body mechanics, moderate energy requirements, frequent fine motor skills, moderate both handedness; requires 20/20 near vision, 20/40 far vision, color discrimination and accurate depth perception.
