POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for performing professional and technical processing duties associated with reviewing student financial aid procedures and processes for efficiency and effectiveness. This position is responsible for the design, implementation, and execution of the Banner financial aid system.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a course of study related to the occupational field.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years of experience in Banner processing.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing professional and technical processing duties associated with reviewing student financial aid procedures and processes for efficiency and effectiveness. This position is responsible for the design, implementation, and execution of the Banner financial aid system.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Performs the federal financial aid application data load process, including downloading electronic application and correction records from the state and federal processors, uploading records to the Banner financial aid system and batch posting data requirements to applicant records.
  • Awards and disburses financial aid and resolves discrepancies in award/disbursement files.
  • Reviews Subsequent ISIRs daily process resolving discrepancies
  • Uses Banner Letter Generation (Tracking, Awards, Balance Notifications, and Special Notifications)
  • Creates and runs reports using SQL and complex Population Selections to satisfy the needs of the department.
  • Assists in Pell Grant Program (Origination, Reconciliation, Pell POPs and Multiple Reporting Records)
  • Implements Financial Aid controls and guidelines for best practices based on federal and state regulations, and The Technical College System of Georgia policies.
  • Determines eligibility for federal, state, college, and other aid programs in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, guidelines, and other governing criteria.
  • Automates and executes Banner processes with third party systems which may include COD, NSLDS, EDconnect, File Transfer Protocol, EDexpress, and Sqlplus
  • Coordinates Financial Aid processes within the department and other departments, including, but not limited to data entry errors, student notifications and non-payment drops.
  • Implements changes to system based on user feedback, and federal/state regulation changes.
  • Maintains and performs document updates of policies and procedures.
  • Creates Banner population selections and Sqlplus scripts, execute system processes
  • Tests Banner releases and trains the Financial Aid Staff on the system updates.
  • Analyzes system reports and resolves student records issues, including daily disbursement reports
  • Provides support for financial aid staff in timely manner.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable state, federal, and college financial aid programs, policies and procedures.
  • Finds solutions to all system related issues in a timely manner
  • Researches and implements new system features and processes
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Demonstrated experience working with complex procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain accurate records and convey complex technical information..
  • Financial aid experience with an emphasis on computer and systems support.
  • Working knowledge of student financial management systems such as BANNER, document imaging, EDExpress, MS Windows, SQL and File Transfer Systems.
  • In depth knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs and supporting regulations.
  • Ability to establish priorities and initiate objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of institutional organization, policies, procedures, and administrative practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations.
  • Initiative in seeking constant student service delivery improvements.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Director of Student Financial Aid assigns work in terms of general instructions. The Coordinator will carry out the assignments with minimal direction from supervisor. Work will be reviewed by supervisor through scheduled meetings and ongoing communication.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include Chattahoochee Technical College policies and procedures, federal guidelines, software user guides and manuals, the college catalog, and relevant state standards. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied analytical and administrative duties. The variety of projects and processes involved in the job contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide operational analysis of student financial systems. Success in the position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of student financial processes.
