Plymouth Dance July Outdoor Performanceopportunity

Part of U.Dance 2015

Open Call for Youth Dance groups based in the South West of England to perform at outdoor City Centre locations in Plymouth on the following dates in July, leading up to U.Dance 2015.

4th / 5th/ 11th / 12th / 18th / 19th / 23rd and 24th July 2015

Plymouth Dance is inviting South West based youth dance groups (including school groups) to apply to be a part of a special month to celebrate and profile Youth Dance in the South West. There will also be a range of public workshops and performances by professional dance companies. The performances will be part of U.Dance 2015 which Plymouth is proud to be hosting.

If you would like to be a part of this programme of events, the first step is to complete the application and email it along with links to your work (or pervious work you have done) by 5pm on the 1st May 2015.

All applications will be carefully considered. Successful groups will be invited to perform on one of the 8 available days. There will be two performance opportunities per day subject to weather conditions.

CRITERIA

  • Your group must meet in the South West of England
  • Age range 5 – 25 years

Dance leaders are not expected to perform as part of the group – your group should be ready to perform on stage independently

  • Ideal length of piece 3 - 10 minutes
  • Ideal number of participants no more than 15

(If these criteria present a problem for your group please talk to us about it)

  • You must be able to provide appropriate music on CD or via email 7 days before the performance (please take care -any music with words must not contain bad language and you must be able to prove that you have permission to use your music – to avoid copyright issues, we would advise that you commission music. To obtain permission you must write to the publisher to ask for written permission to use their track. If you are editing the music in any way you must also apply for mechanical rights. To discuss this in more detail please contact us or visit the PRS website note it is your responsibility to obtain copyright permission and Plymouth Dance will accept no liability or responsibility if you have not done so. We have a template letter available if you should need one.
  • Any style of dance – the piece needs to work in anoutdoor setting on a concrete floor. NB we will ask you to complete a risk assessment prior to the performance.
  • Age appropriate costume and movement

NB We will do our best to include all groups which meet the criteria and are ready to take part in this opportunity, but if we receive more applications than we can programme, selection will be at the discretion of Plymouth Dance and the selection panel.

You will be informed whether or not you have aperformance slot by Monday 18th May 2015.

How your group will benefit:

  • Chance to mix with and see work from other dance groups from across the South West
  • Lots of publicity and promotion for your group

This event is unpaid and you will be responsible for your own time and transport.
