Please read the following to familiarize yourself with these procedures.

Students cannot sign up for any Applied Experience course themselves (in Banner). You must contact the Applied Experiences Coordinator, Dr. Tanya Boone (), or the office of Community Partnerships and Service Learning (

If you are interested in doing 481 or 498:

  1. Contact the faculty member you are interested in working with to arrange the research or teaching assistantship.
  2. With the faculty member, complete the Applied Experience contract.
  3. Submit the contract (signed by you and the faculty member) to Dr. Tanya Boone, who will submit it to the Dean’s office for registration.

AV Students: You must also follow this procedure. Submit your contract to Dr. Boone by sending it to her via InterCampus Mail.

If you are interested in doing 496:

  1. Go to the website of the Community Partnerships and Service Learning (CPSL) office— to complete the Application Form.
  2. In your application, be sure to indicate that you want 496 and 395.
  3. When you receive confirmation from CPSL of your Application, follow their link to the Guidelines and Limitations Quiz.
  4. If you need assistance from CPSL with finding a placement, email your resume to the CPSL office. When you receive confirmation that they have received it, follow their link to the Site Interest Form, which you must complete and return to them.
  5. The CPSL office will then fax your resume to the placement sites you have listed. If you do not hear from any of those sites, contact the CPSL office directly.
  6. Once a placement has been secured, the CPSL office will ask you to meet with the Internships Coordinator to complete all of the necessary paperwork.
  7. At all times in this process, be sure to complete the next steps requested by CPSL in a timely manner. Also, if you have questions about the process, you should contact the CPSL office directly.

If you are interested in doing 497 (in which you earn credit for your psychology-related job):

  1. Go to the website of the Community Partnerships and Service Learning (CPSL) office— to complete the Application Form.
  2. In your application, be sure to indicate that you want 497.
  3. When you receive confirmation from CPSL of your Application, follow their link to the Guidelines and Limitations Quiz.
  4. Contact Dr. Tanya Boone, Applied Experiences Coordinator, to get approval of your placement site.
  5. Once that approval is obtained, the CPSL office will ask you to meet with the Internships Coordinator to complete all of the necessary paperwork.
  6. At all times in this process, be sure to complete the next steps requested by CPSL in a timely manner. Also, if you have questions about the process, you should contact the CPSL office directly.
