Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas is seeking qualified applicants for the following provisional position on the Helena-West Helena Campus. This job posting is for a full-time, 12 month provisional position funded as a part of the GEAR UP grant.

ProjectSpecialist

Phillips County

Under the direction of the GEAR UP Director and Program Coordinator, assists assigned GEAR UP partner school districtsBarton-Lexa, Helena-West Helena, Lee County and Marvell-Elaine) to ensure full programmatic and fiscal implementation of the GEAR UP grant program at middle and high school direct-service sites. Assists in the development of GEAR UP policies, procedures, rules, guidelines, forms, reports, and other documents relative to the implementation of the GEAR UP program and associated activities including, but not limited to: tutoring, mentoring, counseling, college visitations, educational field trips, motivational activities, parent activities, awards and recognition and minimum standards for direct-service activities. Assists the Program Coordinator and other GEAR UP staff in the development and implementation of PCCUA-based activities and programs for GEAR UP students/parents/guardians to promote increased school interest and involvement, improved academic achievement, career awareness, and academic progression. Provides technical assistance and serve as a liaison between GEAR UP central office staff, partner school districts, and other key stakeholders and partners.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field is desired. Bachelor’s degree in education, social work counseling or related field required and five years’ experience providing services for underserved populations. Experience supervising full-time staff is essential. Experience working within K-12 setting as well as understanding of qualifications for successful transition to higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Must have to ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, program officer, evaluators, parents and community professionals. Must have experience in coordinating multiple programs and curriculum development. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as having the ability to make decisions regarding budgeting, financial planning. Must have the ability to provide leadership of day-to-day programming. Must be able to work a flexible schedule with some evenings and weekend time required. Travel between work sites is required.
