Peer Review of Teaching (Large or Small Group Teaching) – Assessment Criteria

Acceptable

You will receive a grade of “Acceptable” for a session if you meet the following criteria:

  • Show awareness of own strengths and weaknesses in teaching prior to session
  • Plan objectives for review process appropriately (in the light of previous reviews if applicable)
  • Deliver an acceptable teaching session (this judgement is based on the evidence as recorded by the reviewer in part 2 of the Peer Review form - it is not necessary for every box to be ticked)
  • Participate in feedback discussion with the reviewer, suggesting both what was good and ways to improve
  • Identify good teaching practice under heading of “what was good” in part 3
  • Identify aspects that could be amended and/or developed under heading of “ways to improve” in part 3
  • Show evidence of consolidation of good teaching practice in response to comments from previous reviews (if applicable)
  • Show evidence of appropriate change in teaching practice in response to comments from previous reviews (if applicable)

Cause for Concern

You will receive a grade of “Cause for concern” for a session if you:

  • deliver a teaching session which is judged by the reviewer to be poor
  • and/or fulfil any two of the following criteria
  • fail to prepare PR review documentation prior to review
  • use objectives for the review process that show lack of awareness of comments from previous reviews (if applicable)
  • deliver a teaching session that does not demonstrate any reflective practice based on previous reviews (if applicable)
  • do not participate in feedback discussion with reviewer

Unacceptable

You willreceive a grade of “Unacceptable” for a session if you:

  • meet more than 3 of the “Cause for concern” criteria
  • and/or behave unprofessionally or inappropriately
