PAW LAW DOG TRAINING PRESENTS A CORE TRAINING WORKSHOP WITH BARB SCALISE, NCTMB, LMT, CPDT- KA

Core strength is a fundamental element used by your dog to control its body when jumping, turning, running. Helping your dog develop strong core muscles can reduce and prevent injuries. This is true whether your dog is involved in dog sports, is a working dog, or just a couch potato with healthier aspirations.
Core conditioning is an essential part of any athlete’s training program, including the performance dog. If your dog participates in agility competitions, you'll want to make sure your dog is in prime physical condition. Once introduced to the different conditioning equipment (e.g., eggball, bosu ball, fit disk, etc.), your dog's body will automatically react to the shifting movement, causing your dog to use different muscle groups simultaneously in order to remain upright. Adding this strengthening activity to your dog's cross-training activities 3-4 times a week has many benefits, including:

  • Improved reaction and control
  • Increased trunk and core strength
  • Stabilization of weak areas
  • Improved balance and proprioception (awareness of the body's position in space)
  • Increased range of motion in joints and elongation of the muscles
  • Improved sensory and body awareness

Who is Barb Scalise?

Barb Scalise, NCTMB, LMT, CPDT-KA, has been working with dogs full time since 1995 when she opened a local pet-sitting service. Over the last fifteen years, she has completed certifications in professional dog training, small animal acupressure, and canine massage. Just recently she became a licensed massage therapist for humans as well!

As a regular agility competitor, she uses her skills to keep her own working dogs in top condition, to recover from training and competition more quickly and to avoid injury. Her well-rounded approach to body work allows her students access to several different modalities, giving them many options for supportive care for their animals. Gentle in her demeanor, enthusiastic in her presentation and intuitive in her work, Barb is a knowledgeable and entertaining instructor.
