Rev. Michael J. RothVol. 6, No.31

The members of Trinity have been very generous in supporting the social ministry outreach of our congregation into the community. On the first Sunday of the month we receive a door offering to support the Benevolent Ministry, which assists people in need when they have a shut-off notice from the utility company or an eviction notice from their landlord. Every year at our Thanksgiving service we have an ingathering of food and gift cards that provide resources for us to serve at the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen. The children in our school contribute a month’s offerings to assist with community dinners. From time to time members give special gifts that they want to be used for social ministry outreach or the food truck. Truly the members of Trinity are very compassionate toward those in need.

As these ministries of Trinity to the community have grown we require more resources to carry them out. We have received a number of grants from Thrivent and continue to seek funding from other granting agencies who believe in what we are doing. In addition to the need for increased funding is the need for more organization and management of these funds. Since all of the moneys to operate our social ministry outreach are outside the budget the Council has been discussing a better way to manage and account for the funds received and expended. To date we have maintained numerous special accounts. This is no longer an efficient system. Therefore the Council has determined that there will be one account called the Social Ministry Outreach account, which continues to be separate from the budget. All moneys that are received for Soup Kitchen, Benevolent ministry, community dinners, food truck, etc. will be held in this one account. Expenditures will also be taken from this account. A separate budget for this account will track and manage the funds for the various ministry efforts so that there will be proper accounting and distribution of funds.

What this means is that whenever funds are received, whether from the 1st Sunday door offering, the Thanksgiving ingathering, or special donations made, they will go into this Social Ministry Outreach account. Dollars that are designated “Food Truck” or “Soup Kitchen” or whatever will still be used for those designated purposes. But having one unified fund will give more flexibility to these ministries and provided funding where needed.

Thank you for your generous support and care for our community.

Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

Welcome

We extend a warm welcome to all who worship with us today. It is our joy to worship with you. As the Holy Spirit gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the Church, we believe you will meet your risen Savior today through Word and Sacrament. If you are a first-time visitor, please introduce yourself to our pastor after the service. And if you do not have a church home, we invite you to consider becoming a part of our church family.

Please join together in the Welcome Center after each worship service for a time of fellowship.

Please take time to fill out the Welcome & Communication sheet in your bulletin and place it in the offering plate as it is passed. Thank you.
