Classroom Policies and Procedures

Attendance: Students enrolled in theCNA program are required to attend class daily. It is understandable that people get sick or circumstances beyond their control may occur. If for any reason a student is going to be out sick or late to class, they MUST call the classroom. The classroom number is (793-8640). Students must call in prior to the class period beginning. The classroom is equipped with voice-mail; if no answer, leave a message.

No-Call/No-Show: This is when a student fails to call into class. This is a serious infraction. The classroom/clinical environmentsmodel the workplace. Just as you must report to work, you must report to class/clinical. Students who fail to call in on a scheduled classroom day will receive a ZERO (0) for their daily grading. Students who fail to call in on a scheduled clinical day will receive a ZERO (0) for that day andlose 20 points on their next scheduled clinical day. This policy is used to reinforce the seriousness of the workplace and an employee’s work ethic. Students who call in late will lose 10 points the next graded day.

Late Assignments: No assignments will be accepted late. Students receive a monthly calendar which clearly lists any homework assignments and their due dates. Students need to follow their monthly calendar to help them stay abreast of all assignments. If absent when an assignment is due, they must hand in work upon their return to class.

Study-Buddies: During the first full week of school, students will be paired up with a study-buddy. In the event a student is out, this person will be responsible to collect any handouts or materials presented that day. It is recommended that the students exchange phone numbers to help keep up-to-date on class activities. There is a large amount of material covered daily, and using the study-buddy method helps keep everyone on the same page.

Grading Policy: Students receive a grade each quarter which is reported to the home school. This grade is recorded on the home school report card. Grades are computed by including three categories:

Knowledge: average of all quizzes, tests, and homework grades. All tests count twice.

Academic: average of all Science and English related lessons

Attitude: average of daily grades and end of quarter attitudinal grade. The grade is based on professionalism, attendance, teamwork, and work ethic.

Skills: average of all grades given during a clinical rotation. During some quarters there will be no clinical assignment, therefore, no clinical grade.

(Policies and procedures are subject to change based on classroom and instructor needs. Students will be notified if any major changes must occur.)
