FINISH:Hemingway’s Marina (next to the twin bridges on the eastern shores of the bridges)

8:30 a.m. / 4.4 Volunteers and staff arrive for set up at Sandy Point State Park
9:00 a.m. to
10:30 a.m.
NOTE: There will be no bus service back to Sandy Point State Park for swimmers, after swim start.
Spectators who will be on site at Sandy Point State Park: You must pay a $ parking fee at the entrance gate. Expect traffic delays at the gate.
NO PETS PERMITTED PAST THE ENTRANCE GATE at Sandy Point State Park.
It is over 1.50 miles from the park’s entrance gate to swim check in area. / School shuttle buses begin departures from the Park & Ride lot on the eastern shore:
Exit 37 South off Rt. 50. Last exit prior to going over the bridges from the eastern shores) If coming from the Annapolis side of the bridges, it is your first exit to the right. Ground signs will be posted. The lot will be on the left on Route 50, approximately ¼ mile from either exit. No fee to use the Park & Ride lot.
Buses will have signs on the front windows to designate:
4.4 SWIM (Swimmers only, no spectators)
  • One Mile Swim (Swimmers & All Spectators)
  • All are encouraged to utilize the Park & Ride parking lot. Parking is limited at Hemingway’s Marina lot. Areas will be blocked off. Attendants will collect a $ car fee, and will direct cars to specific rows within Hemingway’s parking area. Your parking areas will be approximately half-mile or more from the swimmer check-in area.
  • One Mile buses will be making runs back and forth between the Park & Ride lot and Hemingway’s Marina from start to conclusion of the awards ceremony.
    For spectators with pop-up tents and large picnic set-up, we encourage you to drop off your items, then drive to the lots designated for parking. Buses are limited on the size of items to be transported.

    We encourage all swimmers to utilize shuttle buses at the Park & Ride lot, We also encourage all 4.4 spectators to utilize the One Mile shuttle buses and go directly to Hemingway’s Marina to get a great spot on the grass bluff overlooking the bay and finish area. There will be food vendors, music, items for sale, games for children, an exciting day for all! We do not encouragepets in the area, as it can be very hot, it will be very crowded, and loud music. Smokers are requested to walk away from the viewing-picnic area, to smoke closer in the parking area.
  • NO ALOHOLIC BEVERAGES TRANSPORTED TO EVENT VENUE. Vendors will be on site.

SWIM PACKETS:
- Will contain, your assigned race bib number.
- CHIP TIMING ANKELBAND ---- - Your color coded swim cap
IF WEARING A FULL LENGTHWET SUIT, WEAR TIMING BAND OVER THE PANT LEG. / 4.4 Swim Check-in conducted at the top of the grass hill under the white pop-ups.
4.4 buses will drop 4.4 swimmers off near the Public Restroom facilities, at the bottom of the hill.
  • Behind the public restroom building, March of Dimes volunteers will be staffing the bag drop-off area.
  • They will have markers and bags for your items, or your own personal bags which you will write your name, and race number. The items will be trucked back to the Finish area at Hemingway’s Marina. Bags will be laid out in number order by volunteers. You must show your number. It will be conducted on a grass medium in the parking lot, outside of the enclosed finish/secured fenced area.
  • IT IS MANDATORY TO WEAR YOUR MATERIALS WITHIN YOUR SWIM PACKET.
    Please remove the tear off tag from the race number bib, and place it on your head under your numbered, color-wave coded swim cap. NOT WEARING YOUR SWIM CAP WILL RESULT IN BEING PULLED. IT IS YOUR VISUAL I.D. FOR IN-WATER VOLUNTEERS.

SWIM CHECK-IN GUIDELINES:

After receiving your swim packet, please proceed directly to the adjacent body marking pop-up staffed by March of Dimes volunteers.
AT THIS POINT IN TIME, all items to be bagged & trucked back to the finish area, should be at the bag drop off area. / -Under the white pop-ups: Each pop-up will be divided SWIM WAVE:
(you selected your swim wave on your entry form)
Wave One -- estimated over 2.50 hours finish
Wave two -- estimated under 2.50 finish time
Each wave will be in alpha order. Your MUST show your personal PHOTO I.D. photo copy of your driver’s license. MINORS: PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIANMUST ALSO SHOW PHOTO I.D. Minors may show copy of birth certificate, school i.d. or any other PHOTO i.d. such as library card. NO PHOTO I.D. NO SWIM -- MANDATORY for all participants.
>NO CHANGING SWIM WAVES ON EVENT DAY! If you believe you have selected the wrong swim wave, YOU MUST EMAIL Linda at: by MAY 1st. After that date all materials are being numbered, assigned, and swim packets being prepared, and packed.
  • YOUR SWIM PACKET WILL CONTAIN:
    1. Your Tyvek Bib Number. Remove the thin bottom tear-off strip. Wear it on the top of your head under your swim cap.
  • YOUR SWIM CAP – numbered and wave color-coded. MANDATORY TO WEAR!
  • YOUR VELCRO ANKLE BAND WITH YOUR ASSIGNED CODED TIMING CHIP.
    IF WEARING A FULL LENGTH WET SUIT –WEAR IT ON TOP OF THE BOTTOM OF THE PANT LEG I.E. -- ON THE OUTSIDE. ALL OTHERS IT IS TO BE WORN ON YOUR LEG ABOVE THE ANKLE.
  • After receiving your swim packet please proceed directly to the adjacent Body Marking pop-up staffed by March of Dimes volunteers. The top of your hand(s) will be numbered, as well as your shoulder if not wearing a full wetsuit. Your swim cap is already numbered.

PRE-SWIM RACE MEETING
ALL SWIMMERS ARE READY TO SWIM immediately following the pre-swim meeting.
/ -ALL SWIMMERS ARE OUT OF THE WATER AND CLEARED OFF THE BEACH.
ALL SWIMMERS ARE NOW IN THE OPEN AREA IN FRONT OF THE CLOSED CHECK-IN TABLES.
ALL SWIMMERS ARE READY FOR SWIM DAY MEETING CONDUCTED BY EVENT DIRECTOR CHUCK NABIT:
Welcoming comments and sponsor acknowledgements by Chuck Nabit.
Chuck will detail: Water temperature, current conditions and suggestions for best swimming tactics on course. Placement of in water bouys, in water support, and in-water refreshment boats.
He will advise that if you stray off the course boundaries (which will be detailed during the meeting), or if you are not at the course mile markers by the deadline times, YOU WILL BE PULLED by the in-water support lining the course. (Mile marker times listed below)
If pulled, your numbered swim cap, and bib number strip from the top of your head, PLUS your timing band WILL BE REMOVED. Your number will be radioed to the timing center will you will be accounted for, and confirmed for being pulled from the water, for transportation to the boat dock on the far side of Hemingway’s Restaurant. Your removed swim i.d. materials will also be given to timing command center.
NOON:
12:20 p.m. / WAVE 1: BEACH SCAN OF EACH SWIMMER UPON ENTRY TO SECURED START BEACH
You will walk through the secured fence opening and walk over one of the two ground-reader tracks marked: WETSUITS HERE -or- NO WETSUIT HERE (award to the first non-wetsuit finisher)
12:15 p.m. WAVE 2 IS ASSEMBLED OUTSITE THE FENCE OPENING - READY FOR THEIR ENTRANCE BEACH SCAN ONTO THE SECURED-BEACH START AREA, walking over the designatedground reader tracks.
ALL SWIMMERS MUST USE THE SCANNING ENTRANCE AREA!! WE MAINTAIN A CONSTANT ACCOUNTABILITY OF EVERYONE ENTERING THE WATER. THIS COUNT IS TRANSMITTED BACK TO THE TIMING COMMAND CENTER WITH YOUR ASSIGNED SWIM NUMBER.
A RUNNING ACCOUNTABILITY IS ON-GOING FROM THIS POINT ON … IN-WATER PULLS TO CONFIRMED FINISHERS – SWIMMERS TOTAL SCANNED ENTRY COUNT – MUST EQUAL THE PULLED COUNT AND FINISHERS. NEVER LEAVE THE EVENT WITHOUT RETURNING YOUR SWIM CAP AND TIMING BAND. NEVER SWITCH YOUR ASSIGNED SWIM PACKET WITH ANOTHER PARTICIPANT.
All in-water boats checked in and command post up & running. Lead boat in position.
Command post up and running, medical support teams are ready.
WAVE 1 ON THE START BEACH – THIS IS NOTAN IN-WATER WATER START.
Chuck Nabit receives a confirmation for swim start from Command Center.
12:30 p.m. - Start / Chuck Nabit proceeds with Wave 1 count down, and START
12:35 p.m.
Wave 2 Lead Boat in Position / Wave 2 is now walking over the fenced beach start scan procedure, and walking to the water edge for their start.

NOTE: ANY SWIMMER FROM EACH WAVE WHO DECIDES NOT TO SWIM WHILE ON THE START BEACH: MUST GIVE THEIR ANKLE TIMING BAND & SWIM CAP TO LINDA WHO IS CONDUCTING THE SWIM BEACH SCAN-ENTRY COUNT. The swimmer will be given a ride back to Hemingway’s Marina at the finish area on the eastern shores.
12:50 p.m.
/ 4.4 Check-in site, and swim start areas are now broken down, packed and ready for transport out of Sandy Point State Park. Staff and volunteers depart the park and return to Hemingway’s Marina on the eastern shores, next to the twin bridges.

NOTE: / These are anticipated start times. The race director reserves the right to vary the start time to account for deviations from the predicted tide and current conditions, as indicated by NOAA. Therefore, a start window of between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. has been established to allow maximum flexibility.

GCBS Accountant will be at a collection table next to the 4.4 swim packet/check in tables. She will take new or additional contributions from swimmers prior to the swim meeting. / At the finish beach volunteers posted: helping you out of the water. You will proceed up the short hill, walking over the timing-reader tracks. At the top, volunteers take your swim cap, and tyvek strip on your head, plus remove your timing Velcro ankle-band. There will be chairs, bottled water, and medical tent within the secured/fenced finish area.
Adjacent refreshment tables will be within the area with a variety of food and liquids: see next page
Soda (with sugar and sugar free), juices, sandwiches with and without meat, fruits, pastries, cookies.
- All spectators are restricted from entering this area.
- Fire trucks with sprinklersoutside of the finish area along the fence, with sprinklers running.
- Buses are continuing to make runs from the finish area back & forth to the Park & Ride lot.
- Drop off bags are now lined up on a medium behind the pop-ups.
- If you included your cell phone number of your entry form, your personal finish results will be texted directly to the number. Texting of results will be on-going as swimmers finish.
Chrome notebooks will be set up on a table next to the LIN-MARK Sports timing van.

- You just type in your swim number to view your results.
PLEASE DO NOT USE THE COMPUTERS FOR ANY OTHER SEARCHING OR as personal p.c.
- You will cause the results program to close, and must be reactivated for the next person.
