SEPTEMBER 16, 2003 BOND COMMISSION APPROVAL OF PROJECTS SUBMITTED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

Agency: Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station

Project: Funds approved to finance additional costs necessary to complete the Johnson-Horsfall Laboratory additions and renovations project at the Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station in New Haven(Project Number BI-P-70). Additions to construction include a 450 KW backup generator needed to meet Centers for Disease Control certification and a sound barrier and screen for rooftop mechanical equipment to ameliorate excessive noise.

Project: Funds approved to finance various infrastructure alterations and improvements at state-owned facilities, specifically emergency and minor capital projects. (BI-2B-9000).

Agency: Department of Motor Vehicles

Project: Funds approved to finance the design of roof replacements at Department of Motor Vehicle branch offices in Old Saybrook, Norwich and Wethersfield (BI-MM-1000).

Agency: Judicial Branch

Project: Funds approved to award a construction contract for renovations and improvements to 75 Elm Street in Hartford to house the Appellate Court (BI-JD-282).

Agency: Judicial Branch

Project: Funds approved to finance additional costs necessary to complete the construction of a 45,000 gross square foot addition to the Juvenile Detention Center at 920 Broad Street in Hartford (BI-JD-253). Additions to the construction include unforeseen changes to the type of foundations required, enhancements to the security systems and costs associated with winter construction conditions.

DPW INVITATIONS TO SUBMIT A/E LETTERS OF INTEREST

The state Department of Public Works has been authorized to retain consultants/firms to work on the contracts/projects described below.

Submissions due November 5, 2003:

ACHITECT AND CONSULTANT DESIGN TEAM: Contract Number: BI-CTC-406. An addition and renovations to Wings “A” and “C” and site improvements at the West Campus of Norwalk Community College in Norwalk. The new space, to be located at the south end of the facility, will provide additional classrooms, state-of-the-art Science laboratories, seminar rooms and faculty offices. The estimated construction cost is $15 million.

CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION FIRM / TEAM: Contract Number: CF-RD-220-CA. For the design and construction of a new Student Center at Westside Campus of Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS ABATEMENT CONSULTANTS (ON-CALL): Contract Number: OC-DPW-HAZ0001 through 0004. For four firms to provide rapid response to the Department of Public Works and its client agencies. These contracts shall run for a two-year period with a potential additional option year. The total fee that may be paid under this contract is $500,000.

Project: Renovations and addition to Buley Library at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven (BI-RS-225A). The project consists of a 112,000 square foot new addition and 117,500 square feet of renovations.

Objective criteria: Completion of three similar projects in the past eight years.

Cost estimate range: $35 million or greater.

Completion time: 1500 calendar days.
