NUVEEN INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND FOR ACADEMIC UNITS

The John Nuveen Center for International Affairs is accepting applications for the AY 15-16 International Development Fund for Academic Units. We are pleased to announce that five awards will be available for AY 2015-16. This competition is open to all UIC academic units.

These awards are intended to encourage international program development at UIC by supporting units in activities that will result in an internationally enriched academic environment. Typically, proposals may involve but need not be limited to presentations or round table discussions that include international components either because of the topic or because of the presenters. Proposals may include campus programs of distinctive international component. The proposal will show evidence of the activity as initiation, strengthening, or expansion of a program or enriching the educational experience of the student population.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

AY 2015-2016

1) To apply please submit the following materials:

 Application form (attached)

 Itemized Budget (attached)

 Endorsement statement (attached)

OIA requests that OIA's International Development Fund for Units be listed in every printed material related to the sponsored program. Proof of such material is requested enclosed to the report.

a)Application form: provides basic information to identify the applicant, and includes the narrative statement, which should be a maximum of one (1) double-spaced page. The following aspects should be included in the narrative statement:

i)Objectives and significance of the proposed activity,

ii)Description of how the activity relates to the development or enhancement of international programs, and benefits students, staff, or faculty at the UIC campus,

iii)Evidence of efforts to identify and build upon existing institutional linkages,

iv)A detailed description of how the funds will be used.

b)Itemized Budget of the activity should list expenses and contributions. Please include all additional contributions and sponsorships requested confirmed and to be confirmed.

c)The endorsement statement to be submitted directly by Dean or delegate. This document can be sent via email to from a designated UIC email address.

2)Criteria for Awards:

a)Applicant must be a UIC unit.

  • Applicant must not have received this award in thepreviousor current academic year.

b)Applications for reimbursement for unfunded activity occurring by 6/30/2016will be considered.

c)Activities may include round tables, or conference.

d)This program is intended to support the enhancement of international activities at UIC.
Primary weight will be given to the merit of the proposal as determined by the following:

i)Relevance to development or enhancement of campus international activities or programs;

ii)Benefits for the UIC student, staff, and faculty population; and

iii)Prospects for continued activity directly resulting from proposed funding.

Notification of the results will be emailed thirty (30) days following the application deadline date.

Please note that payment paperwork must be processed within one week of the end of the UIC fiscal year or the recipient will forfeit funding.
