As Advent begins, we await Christmas. Class 3 and 4 are visiting the Methodist Church this morning to 'Experience Christmas.' Class 3 are also busy compiling an Advent calendar in reverse, thinking about giving gifts rather than receiving them. The Foundation Stage Unit has been decorated with opportunities for the children to go Christmas shopping.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Lantern Parade this evening, starting from South Molton Community Primary School, next to the Honey Farm, at 6pm. Mrs Hawkins

Lantern Parade Friday 1 December: The children in classes 2 and 3 have decorated lanterns for the lantern parade, and we would love it if they could bring them along on the night to help make it a special display. Please feel free to bring lanterns of your own, last year some families decorated umbrellas with fairy lights and baubles, which were fantastic! Meet at South Molton Community Primary (by Honey Farm) at 6pm. Please note that although staff will be there, parents will be responsible for their own children. It's a lovely occasion, with an opportunity for some late night shopping and plenty of delicious treats to celebrate the run up to Christmas.

Christmas Tree Festival: The children in class 4 have made decorations for our school's tree, which will be displayed in St. Magdalene Church for 5 days, including this weekend of the lantern parade, please do visit this fantastic display of Christmas trees representing our community.

Reception starters for September 2018: If your child’s birthday falls between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014 then you will need to apply for their school place. The applications can be made between 15 November 2014 and 15 January 2018 online at www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline or by calling 0345 155 1019.

Christmas Jumper Day; We are again supporting the Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper day, so please dig out your festive jumpers ready for the last day of term and send children in these with a donation for the charity.

Clubs: The last session of Street Dance Club will run on Tuesday 12th December. All other clubs are now finished.

Parent Led extracurricular activities:

A big WELL DONE to the team of climbers who took part in the competition at Rock and Rapid on 19th November. They did very well and the team came 4th overall. The children competing were Riley who came second in his category, Audrey 15th & Daisy came 43rd out of 53 which is an amazing achievement considering it was her first climb.

Well done to all the children who took part in The Gliddon and Squires Cross Country run on Sunday 26 November at West Buckland School. It was a fast course and they all did extremely well, Stanley (37th), Harry P (89th), Alfie (66th), Charlie (61st), Harry T (66th), Riley J (40th), Erica (32nd), Alana (73rd) and Daisy (58th). Their combined results put the boys team in 10th place overall in the league and the girls 14th place.

Christingle Service: As in previous years the children will be making their Christingle in school and we will all go to the Church for the service at 2pm. Parents and family are warmly welcomed to the church for the service. All children will be walked back to school to collect their things after the service and be collected/catch the bus etc. as normal at the end of the day.

Penguins Update

It’s DECEMBER! And that brings all the fun and excitement of Christmas (and Mrs Marchant is the most excited of all!). The children joined the staff this week with trying on all the Christmas costumes ready for the nativity in a couple of weeks’ time. The tree is up and we have been busy preparing some fantastic Christmas memories for the bazaar next week. If you have any Christmas bits and pieces that you are replacing, especially wrapping paper please think of us before you get rid of them, thank you.
