NIBC SCROUNGERS RULES – AUTUMN SEASON 2015

PLAYING RULES for SCROUNGERS

The game will be of 12 ends, with a maximum of 5 players to each rink each bowling 3 bowls.
Point score – Nearest bowl to the Jack=3 points
Second bowl=2 points
Third bowl =1 point
If two bowls are both “resting touches’” then 3 points each. Third bowl receives no points.
Theplayer listed first on the score card will have the mat and roll the Jack for the first end. They will also be responsible for keeping score during the game.
Bowlers will bowl in card order for the first end. Subsequent bowling order shall be determined by scores on the previous end. The scorer shall call the order of play once prior to each end commencing and bowls are to be place in that order near the mat.
The Jack shall not be centred after being rolled. It shall be played where it stops.
If the lead bowler fails to roll the minimum length or rolls the Jack out of bounds, then the next bowler in turn rolls the Jack and the first lead then bowls last (note:the side ditch is the same as out of bounds).
A 3 point penalty shall be incurred for:
Bowling a bowl out of bounds
Bowling out of turn.
Bowls which are out of bounds should be removed, preferably by a player from an adjacent rink.
Any player causing the Jack to go out of bounds when delivering their bowl will lose 6 points from their score and that concludes the end.
If a players’ first or second bowl finishes in the ditch they will not bowl their remaining bowls that end. Furthermore, Iftheirlast bowl is ditchedthey shall not bowl at all on the next end. Any of theirbowls still on the rink shall not score points for that end. This rule applies to ALL ditched bowls even if they are out-of-bounds before being ditched
When the Jack is ditched it is still live but its position shall not be shown by the Jack indicator. Bowls in the ditch do not count even if they are ‘touchers’. Only the three closest bowls on the green count.
If a kitty is rolled and played to from a mat placed on the wrong line, the end must be restarted with the next player rolling the jack (no penalty points) and the offending player moving to the back of the bowling order for that end.
Players bowling into a neighbouring rink and disturbing the head on that rink will be penalized 3 points. The disturbed end will be replayed. Bowlers are expected to avoid this risk by waiting to continue bowling until the end on the neighbouring rink has been completed. If a player elects to bowl through or into a neighbouring rink, then they must accept the consequential penalty if they disturb bowls in that rink.
The player with the score card shall be responsible for ensuring all handicaps and penalties are entered on the card correctly and making sure the final score equals 72. If a Jack has been knocked out of bounds thefinal score would be less by 6 points each time.
Penalties are to be added to card as they occur. Handicaps to be subtracted at the end of the 12th end, to determine the rink winner with the highest net score.
Visitors or non-financial members of the scroungers club shall play off a handicap of 6 for their first game and an additional 3 points for each game thereafter.
If there are more than 5 rink winners, semi-finals of 3 ends will be played. If there are 5 or less rink winners, then there will be one rink of 3 ends and this will be the final.
A tied score will be resolved in a one end,3 bowl play off with the shot bowl player being the winner.
HANDICAPS: Each week handicaps will be awarded to the overall winner,the runner up and other rink winners:
The winner is handicapped 6 points in total for the first win eachseason and 3 points in total for each subsequent win in current season
Each runner up shall be handicapped 3 point in total

In the weekly finals and semi-finals:
Players from handicap 6- 8 shall play on a one handicap
Players from handicap9-12 shall play on a two handicap
Players on handicap above 13shall play on a three handicap.
HANDICAP REVIEW(at the end of each season):
Players on a handicap 13 and above go back to 6
Players with a handicap between 9-12 go back to 3
Players with a handicapbetween 8-4 go back to 1
Players on a handicapbelow 4 go back to 0.
To be eligible to win end of season prizesa player must play a minimum of 7 games. Prizes will be awarded for the highest handicap, second highest handicap, and highest points over 7 games, second highest points over7 games and highest gross points in one game.
No player shall win more than one major prize at the completion of the season.
