Cereals Event 2015: Stand No. 1122

NEW COMPACT NO-TILL MOUNTED DRILL FROM GREAT PLAINS

Alongside its new trailed Saxon and Centurion drills on display at this year’s Cereals event, Great Plains is also showing its 3P1006NT 3-metre 2-point mounted drill for the first time in the UK.

The 3P1006NT utilises the 06 Series Openers for seed placement. The 80 kg coulter pressure ensures excellent penetration, with minimal disturbance even in the toughest conditions, while the sprung, pre-loaded coulter design adds stability and improved tracking on slopes, says the manufacturer.

Great Plains’ double disc configuration and full length seed tube ensures that the seed is placed consistently at the chosen depthbehind the strip of fine tilth created by the Turbo Coulter. Additional seed tubes are used to place both native grass and small seeds. This allows three different seeds to be planted at separate rates and different depths at the same time. Depth control is handled by the 18-position T-handle press wheel adjustment.

The drills are fitted with 4-speed gearboxes which provide increased metering flexibility by giving the operator more choices for drive speed.

The 3P1006NT also features the Great Plains ‘Lift Assist’ package. Two standard ‘Lift Assist’ wheels to the rear of the 3P1006NT provide greater lift capacity and assist the tractor's 3-point. The drill’s 2-pointmounting with ‘Lift Assist’ allows for excellent ground gauging in rough, rolling terrain while ensuring safe operation and transport.

“Here in the UK, the 3P1006NT unit is primarily aimed at lower HP customers looking for no till or reduced tillage operation,” comments David Holmes, Sales Director for Great Plains UK.

“It’s a solid, reliable and efficient unit,” he added. “Complete with the fluted Turbo Coulter, which creates a min seedbed strip in front of the seeding disc, the consistent seed placement accuracy delivered by the 06 Series opener is well-proven over a number of years and its design reduces side wall smearing, while the pre-loaded pressure ensures excellent penetration. If a customer is looking for low-cost establishment from an easy-to-use and operator friendly drill, the 3P1006NT ticks all the right boxes.”

The 881-litre capacity main seed box is of a fluted feed design. The seeding rate is set with the four-speed transmission and the adjustable gate opening. The optional 352-litre capacity native grass box uses apicker wheel to meter the seed. Rates are adjusted by varying the speed of the drive.

Lastly, the optional 85-litre small seeds attachment is a smaller version of the fluted feed system, and seeding rates are set by changing the opening of the fluted feed. The ground-drive system automatically disengages when lifted, simplifying the unit and enhancing its reliability.

A 261-litre fertiliser box completes the hopper options package.

Other options includes the firm’s Keeton Seed Firmer and closing wheel choices.
