Vermont-NEA is partnering with Southern New Hampshire University and Castleton University to provide the class Accomplished Teaching- National Board Certification.

When: Classes 4:00 – 7:00 pm on 10/11, 11/15, 12/13, 1/17, 2/14, 3/14, 4/1, & 5/9. Additionally, there will be optional candidate workdays at Vermont-NEA and other areas in the state in the Spring.

Where: Middlebury Union Middle School (MUMS)

Who: Teachers pursuing National Board Certification

Cost: $1800 credit/ $1425 noncredit

Candidates should register for the 17-18 cycle at and pay the yearly $75 registration fee prior to your first class.

Course Description: This course supports teachers through two components of National Board Certification. Candidates will learn and apply the Five Core Propositions, National Board Standards for Teaching and the three types of writing expected as part of Board Certification.

Objectives:

  • Define, identify, and practice the three types of writing: descriptive, analytical, and reflective.
  • Review, critique, and provide constructive feedback to others
  • Research best practices related to teaching content
  • Review key content for the certification areas
  • Discuss and apply “assessment for learning” in the classroom
  • Analyze unit/lesson plans and focus on Differentiating for Student Learning
  • Review high impact classroom strategies for student engagement and questioning.
  • Understand and apply the Five Core Propositions to teaching and learning

Gather and analyze information about students’ strengths and needs and use that information to design and implement instruction to advance student learning and achievement.

  • Analyze and reflect on teaching practices as a result of evidence obtained through student work.
  • Complete a minimum of one portfolio component (most will be completing Component 2) and the written assessment if candidate has not done in previous two years.
