MOUNDS VIEW SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION
October 2012 Board Meeting
Tom Byecalledto order the October board meeting of the Mounds View Softball Association(MVSA) at 7:00pm. The meeting was held at the ShoreviewCommunity Center,ShoreviewMN onThursday, October 4, 2012.
Board members in attendance: Sue Blumer, Tom Bye, Mark Hewitson, Betty Hurley, Chris Kelley, Ted Labey, Barb Montero,Jim Murphy, John Peschel, and Greg Sherrill
Absent: Jim Meyer and Doug Schley
Guests: David Van House, Karin Wessberg and Laura Trondson.
President’s report ( Tom Bye)
Tom started out the annual meeting by having current board members and guest introduces themselves. Three officers and 7 At Large positions up for election this year, all candidates were asked to share a few words about themselves and why they wanted to be on the MVSA board.
Voted:Congratulations to the new MVSA Board for 2013
President – Tom Bye – 2 year position
Vice President In House – Ted Labey – 2 year position
Secretary – David Van House – 2 year position
7 At Large 1 year terms:
Sue Blummer, Mark Hewitson, Chris Kelley, Jim Murphy, Greg Sherrill, Laura Trondson and
Karin Wessberg.
Secretary’s Report ( Barb Montero)
Barb stated the next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov 1st at the ShoreviewCommunity Center, 7:00pm. Barb also mentioned she is looking into a few new options for the December
board meeting. Moe’s in Mounds View is an option. She will have more information at the November meeting.
Treasurer’s Report (John Peschel)
All financial reports were sent via email. John discussed significant income to be received from Fall State Gate Fees and concessions, expenses yet to come Backstops and state field prep and possibility some new equipment. Concession may also have a few straggling bills.
John will also send a draft budget to all board members as he will not be available for theNovember 1st meeting.
VP – Traveling ( Doug Schley)
Doug was absent from the meeting, but Barb did mention that Try-out dates have been set, March 8 – 10th, all to take place at Irondale.
In-House – (Ted Labey)
Nothing to report at this time
Concessions (Jim Meyer & Betty Hurley)
Betty stated concessions did very well both days of the FallState tournaments. Betty also mentions we will be getting a new water heater.
Equipment (Jim Murphy)
Jim mentioned all coaches bags have been turned in. We need to tune up the pitching machines. He would also like to purchase new equipment bags.
Umpires (Mark Hewitson)
Mark stated he will continue to use MVSA girls to umpire games again next year. New umpire clinics will be offered in 2013, once he has the official dates Mark will post on our website.
MVSATournaments and Clinics (Greg Sherrill)
New Pitching and catching clinics coming this fall. A fee will be collected, but if player comes to 80% of scheduled sessions all fees will be returned, clinic will be given to them Free of charge.
Greg would like all coaches to call the parents of the girls really start to push this clinic being offered.
Uniforms (Chris Kelley)
Chris stated the deposit idea for the uniforms worked out great. She would like to add 5 new loaner uniforms into the budget request for 2013. Fall ball always a challenge for uniforms when girls are allowed to sign up late.
Fields (Sue Blumer)
Sue stated she has only collected 3 job descriptions from current board. Once all descriptions are received, she will compile into a spreadsheet. Sue also stated she will contact the city about Fall and Spring clean up – Can we hire an outside service to assist with these tasks?
Discussion–
Tom would like to see lights on field 1, we will need to meet with Townhouse association
Also, start brainstorming parking ideas for tournaments and nationals.
Tom motioned to adjourn the meeting, Betty seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned 8:28pm.
