Unit Overview: This module reinforces the important role and responsibilities of supervisors in promoting, monitoring and holding staff accountable for good, and fidelity to the Safety Methodology.
Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify supervisory strategies that support the safety of children.
  2. Support Workers to analyze safety decision making in the context of danger threats and caregiver protective factors.

Key Points:
Supervisors are the role model for embracing the Safety Methodology. The Supervisor’s job in ensuring adherence to the safety model includes:
  • First and foremost ensuring children are safe.
  • Providing the tools, knowledge and support to supervisors who manage workers in the field who are responsible for key components of the Safety Methodology including information gathering, assessment, family engagement and decision-making.
  • Promoting a culture of teamwork that sends the message “safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
  • Modeling the consulting supervisor approach and ensuring that others do as well.
  • Insuring that transfer of learning takes place and is ongoing and consistent.
