Minutes of 1/8/2017 Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:16 pm by Grand Knight Cesar. The rosary was led by Chuck and Zach prior to the meeting.

Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting was moved by Cesar and seconded by Randy. The motion passed unanimously.

Chaplain’s Report:

  • What does Scripture offer? Hope. As Knights (Christians first), in our charitable work, our life, our example, we offer hope. Don’t forget it.

Grand Knight’s Report:

  • Christo Ray sent a thank-you letter for our $1,000 donation
  • Roses for Life
  • Cesar has all the roses gathered from this weekend
  • Roses will be delivered at the March for Life
  • Annual survey for charitable activities for the calendar year of 2016
  • Accumulate minutes of our volunteer work, donations, time towards community service, etc. for each brother Knight. (Pancake Breakfasts, Boy Scouts, Chilli Cookoff, Family Day/Yard Sale, Veteran’s Center lunches, etc.)
  • Supreme uses this to track the impact of each Council on their community, and keep their designation of “charitable organization”
  • Columbiettes thanked the Council for the use of our Hall
  • Coats for Kids
  • We donated our 2 dozen coats in Westside
  • Coats were greatly appreciated, especially given the cold weather we’ve had
  • Supreme is asking we pray a Novena for national unity in preparation for new Supreme officer inaugurations. See Cesar’s email for more details.
  • Upcoming 2nd/3rd Degrees
  • Feb. 18th at St. Peters
  • Dallas got an Award for Outstanding Service

Treasurer’s Report:

  • Council Checking: $4,106 (previously $6,197)
  • Corporate Account: $9,863 (previously $18,729)
  • Multifinancial: $223,783 (previously $223,883)

Financial Secretary’s Report:

Membership Report: Not delivered to the Council last month

  • Dues accumulated so far: $1436.50, which were submitted to the Treasurer during the meeting.

Deputy Grand Knight’s Report:

  • Veteran’s Center lunches
  • Going to be on hold temporarily, due to staffing changes at the Center.
  • Per their advice, we’re reaching out to the new director and meet with them once a new director is appointed.
  • We will be kept informed once we are able to engage the new director about continuing these lunches.
  • 3rd Annual Chili Cookoff
  • Feb. 11th at the Hall from 3:30pm to 7pm, for $10 per chili entry
  • ~40 nearby Councils have been notified and invited to participate
  • Event builds camaraderie, gives the Councils a chance to have fun with their fellow Knights, and gives bragging rights for another year to a Council.
  • New Floor for the Hall
  • Hall will be closed Monday, January 9th, and done by January 28th
  • New floor will be the entire top floor, main Hall, and stage area. Stairs will remain untiled due to fall hazards.

  • Free-throw contest on January 27th, 3:30pm to 4ish
  • Cesar will get with District Deputy regarding the district free-throw contest
  • Building
  • Lots of kitchen work has been done (stove looks like new)
  • New floor is coming in soon
  • We finally got the old safe cracked open
  • Should be good for Bingo when the time comes
  • Donations
  • $1,369 available for donations, that were carried over from last year
  • Will determine a new budget for this year based on predicted income for 2017
  • 4th Degree
  • Officer’s meeting cancelled for January
  • Next meeting is January 26th at Holy Family
  • Rosary at 7:15pm, meeting at 7:30pm
  • No major events upcoming until the April exemplification of the 4th Degree
  • If a 3rd Degree Knight is interested in going to the 4th Degree, talk to Zach or Chuck.
  • Upcoming State Convention will be in St. Louis this year
  • The State Council has discussed cutting down the procession this year due to time consideration. As a result, only 50 honor guards will be in the procession with full regalia.
  • Dress Code will be tightly controlled, including hair and tux. Additionally, certain lapel pins are being allowed to be worn at certain functions.

New Business:

  • Lenten Soup Dinner
  • Last year we ran out of soup, so we’re shooting for at least 8 or 10 soups this year.
  • Will be held some Friday in Lent, date to be decided
  • Larry will get in touch with Roma Bakery for bread donations to use in grilled cheese
  • Admission will be for an optional free-will donation

District Deputy’s Report:

  • 1728 is due on January 31st (requirement for STAR Council)
  • This month has a 5th Sunday, so Supreme recommends leading a rosary before Mass
  • Supreme has a big push the second half of the fraternal year on membership
  • Stay visible to the families in our parish communities
  • Show what we do, and invite young men in the parish to join our efforts
