Minutes from PTA meeting 9/14/11

Attendance: Shelly Cohen, Linda Reedy, Katie Pritscher, Larry Staudt, Amy Chagoya, Janessa Wagner, Kari Schweinberg, Dominice Einig, Beth Bogner, Kate Finneran, Marisa Paolicchi and Sue Mayernick

Call to Order: 10:00a.m.

Treasurer Report: Shelly

Cash Balance 8/1/11: $7,037.30

Deposits: $14,248.00

Expenses: $2,125.50 Cash Balance 9/13/11: $19,159.80

Principal Comments: Mrs Mayernick spoke about a successful first weeks of school, Map testing schedule and attending a school safety conference with Mr. K and Officer Z. She also spoke about ideas on including the preschool students in the Keller/Wildcat community.

President comments: Katie spoke about the STC September meeting. There is a fundraiser, a DeVine Tasting Event Friday 9/16 3:30- 6:00 at Schaumburg convention Center. Tickets are $15.

STC general meeting is 10/11 at Mead Jr. High. Meeting is at 6:30 and includes a Parent Enrichment program called, “Building a healthy self-esteem at home and in the classroom.” Speaker is R.Jerry Criss.

Facebook page needs to be advertised there are too few “friends”.

Moretti’s restaurant offering a fundraiser for the district 54 Foundation 9/21 and 10/6, 15% of profits those nights (accompanied by fundraiser coupons) will go to the Foundation.

New Business

-change in Keller PTA checking account… bank statement needs to be initialed by a board member who doesn’t sign on the account

-walk-a-thon 9/21, 8:00-10:30am sponsored by Keller Council… walk raises money for the Red Cross- theme is, “We donate, We walk, We remember”

-items to be handed out to the students from the PTA are requested to be translated… to get items translated the school secretary needs materials at least 1 week ahead of information release date

Committee Reports:

Cultural Arts: Katie

Katie and Linda went to cultural arts showcase and chose a possible presenter. Imagination Theatre, an interactive theatre company, will be approached to present and end of trimester assembly.

Membership: Kari

As of 9/14 there are 208 members. We still need some staff members and there was discussion on ideas to boost this number.

Newsletter: Jim

Deadline for newsletter is 20th of every month, comes out 1st Wednesday of every month. Jim’s e-mail is:

Picture Day: Kate

Picture day went well but the preschoolers were not photographed. They will get their pictures on re-take day.

Reflections: Shelly

Theme of Reflections is, “Diversity means…” There are many changes to the guidelines including a new consent form. The submission also needs to able to be submitted electronically. Reflections is offered to every student in the building including the preschoolers. Packets will be available before the end of September.

Science Fair: Larry

Many questions were brought up about the science fair and the planning is in process. We will look for a date in the spring, look at state science fair guidelines, and work on ideas like awards, and judging.

Special Lunch: Tracy

There were 218 students who ordered lunch with more anticipated in future trimesters. A total of $13,528 was collected for special lunch so far. Healthy snacks were discussed and gum may be added to the items for sale.
