Global Health Opportunity in Nepal

The Maharajgunj Medical Campus under the Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine (IOM) provides elective program to foreign medical students coordinating with Maharajgunj Medical Campus and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH).

TUTH is a major Teaching Hospital with 600 beds attached to Maharajgunj Medical Campus for training undergraduate and post-graduate students in the Health Sciences. The Maharajgunj Medical Campus also runs the community-based field programs.

Students will have hands on experience in medical care in a developing country both in hospital setting and through community health. The program will expose students to culture of people living in Himalayan region.

IOM is situated at Maharajgunj, about 5 KM from centre of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

Elective Rotations:

The clinical elective is offered to those medical students who are enrolled in the undergraduate or postgraduate studies and the students are required to have a minimum of one year of clinical experience in their own country.

Fees:

Students coming from any country other than those of the SAARC region will need to make payment of US$ 200.00 (US$ Two Hundred) or equivalent in Nepalese currency for a period of four weeks.

Students who want to stay longer than four weeks will have to make additional payment of US $50.00 on a fortnightly basis.

Airfare(from the US) is approximately USD $ 1,300

Accommodation:

The program does not arrange for accommodation. However, they suggest a nearby hotel where most foreign elective students prefer to stay. The hotel offers special rate for elective students.
