Suitable for Years 4-6+
  11. FRACTION (Later) - Model and represent unit fractions including 1/2, 1/4, 1/3, 1/5 and their multiples to a complete whole and exploring the relationship between families of fractions (halves, quarters and eighths or thirds and sixths). Compare and order common unit fractions. Demonstrating equivalence between fractions using drawings and models. Yrs 5-8+

Playing Rules

1. One player shuffles the card deck and deals out an equal number of cards to both players.

2. With cards face down on the table each player removes the top card and places it face up on the table in front of them.

3. The player whose card has the higher value keeps both cards. The winner of the round must explain why they have the greater of the two cards. Cards are put to the bottom of their pack.

4. If both cards have the same value then both players shout “DUALOH” and put three cards face down on the table. They then turn the next top card from their pack over and compare numbers. The player with the higher value takes all of the cards.

5. Play continues until someone wins all of the cards or until the time is up. If time is called, the winner is the player with the most cards.

Variations: Switch During the game change the idea of the largest card wins to the smallest car wins.

Variations - Addition: Two cards are played at once, and added together. The highest sum wins the trick. When players have the same sum then three cards are played face down, two cards up (7 cards should be in front of each player) and the greatest sum wins all 14 cards.

Variations- Subtraction:Two cards are played at once, the lower subtracted from the higher. The highest difference wins the trick. When players have the same difference then three cards are played face down, two cards up are played face up (7 cards should be in front of each player) and the greatest different wins all 14 cards.

Variations- Multiplication: Two cards are played at once. Each player multiplies both their cards together. The highest product wins the trick. When players have the same product then three cards are played face down, two cards are played face up (7 cards should be in front of each player) and the greatest product wins all 14 cards.
