PART II: DETAILED PROJECT PROPOSAL

What is Market and Audience Development?

Marketing is the process of planning that allows you to meet your project goals while addressing the wants and needs of audiences. It is aboutcreating, communicating and delivering value for customers, clients, partners and society at large, while planning your activities. Aspects to consider could include where and when the activity will take place, your target audience, potential collaboration partners and resources required, and the potential impact of the activity on the public.

Audience Developmentinvolves attracting and engaging target arts participants, audiences and markets, and retaining them by establishing and maintaining strategic, sustainable relationships. Beyond marketing, it is about building and gaining the loyalty of your audiences (both existing and new) in the long term through effective communication and thoughtful programming and education.

What Should My Proposal Contain?

Your proposal is an important part of our assessment of your application. It should not exceed 1,500 words, and should be submitted as a separate document. Your proposal should address each of the four sections below. We have come up with some guiding questions that you may wish to use as you craft your proposal. Not all guiding questions under each heading will be relevant to every application – feel free to add other points that you feel are important for us to know.

I / What Would You Like To Do?
  • What is it you want to do? Explain the central idea of your activity, your objectives and milestones.
  • How do you think your project can impact the arts in Singapore or abroad?
  • What will the success of your project look like to you?

II / How Will You Carry Out the Activity?
  • How will you manage and execute the main stages of your activity?
  • What experience do you have in successfully managing a similar activity?
  • What resources (financial or otherwise) have you identified to successfully present your work to a wider audience? How do you plan to obtain these resources (e.g. do you have a sponsorship target)?
In describing these, you could also think about whether your project will make use of new media channels or innovative methods of distribution, media promotion and/or networks.
III / Who Is Involved?
  • Who are the artists and other main people involved/featured in your project?
  • Who are the partners and platforms you plan to collaborate with? What will they contribute to the execution of your project?
For this section, please also include brief CVs / biographical information on the key individuals / organizations involved (see Annex 1A). Other supporting materials you should attach include invitation letters / acceptance letters from collaborators and venue partners to participate in and/or to present your project (if applicable).
V / Impact on Developing New Audiences and Markets
  • Who are the people your project primarily aims to reach, and why are they important to you? Please be specific, e.g. students aged 13-18, people new to art etc.
  • Is your proposal able to engage and excite audiences, and/or engender greater audience loyalty towards your art form?
  • How would you describe your existing audience base? Are you planning to engage new audiences with your project?
  • How many people do you hope to reach with your project?
  • How does your activity contribute to the overall viability and sustainability of your practice and that of your art form?
