-Of Mice and Men Final Project-
You may choose any of the following options for your final project or you may create your own (last option on the sheet).
To earn a good grade on this project, it must be planned, revised, carefully proofread, and neatly presented. While you will be given some time to work on the project in class, it will be completed outside of class. For written parts of the project, a rough copy is required. For visual parts of the project, a planning sketch is required. For oral presentations, an outline or idea web is required. Projects turned in without a rough draft will be given a late grade at best.
Your grade will be assessed on accuracy, creativity, effort, and presentation. A typed, half-page proposal is due on Thursday, 18 October 2001. The final projects will be due at the beginning of class on Monday, 22 October 2001. As this is a large project (worth a lot), I strongly recommend that you dedicate a lot of effort and hand it in on time so as not to receive 60 points or lower. Have fun and do a good job.
What must the project include?
1) A plan (i.e., outline, web, sketch, etc.)
2)At least two double-spaced pages of writing—typed and spell-checked.
Writing can exist in handwriting for a comic or other visual, but you also must include the same text--typed, double-spaced, and spell-checked. I need to be able to grade your writing as it is presented in a clear, standardized (i.e., done the same way by all) manner.
3) At least two sources that you have cited correctly within the text.
4)A correctly-formatted bibliography that includes the Of Mice and Men edition that you have and the other sources that you have used.
5) A creative element. Let’s consider some options.
Possibilities:
1)Create a comic strip or collage strip for the plot of Of Mice and Men.
2)Write a newspaper with pictures on Of Mice and Men with stories on events in the book and other related topics, e.g., cognitive disabilities or migrant workers. Your newspaper could have advertisements, cartoons and many different sections.
3)Create a photonovel of Of Mice and Men. If you can get a hold of a digital camera, you can use it creatively to do this.
4)Write a book of songs or poetry about Of Mice and Men (about characters, themes, settings, etc.).
5)Create a shoebox panorama, drawing or painting of a setting in Of Mice and Men and write up a piece on the scene, symbolism, and themes.
6)Do a collage of Of Mice and Men and write up an description of the symbols and themes that appear in the collage.
7)Do a radio talk show or radio drama of Of Mice and Men using different voices and sound effects. Provide a cassette.
8) Create a soundtrack of five songs that are appropriate for the six different scenes in Of
Mice and Men. Write up a one-page explanation for each song as to why each is appropriate.
9)Write a three to six page essay on a major theme in Of Mice and Men.
10)Choose your own option and justify it to me.
