G: This is Gemma Abbott and I am interviewing Kendyl Schmidt and we are at the SIUE Morris University Center on Dec. 2, 2010. Umm Kendyl could I have you spell your name and say it for me?

K: You want me to spell it?

G: yeah, you need to say it and spell it. It is for transcription reasons.

K: Kendyl Schmidt K-E-N-D-Y-L S-C-H-M-I-D-T

G: okay thank you. Umm, I want to start out by asking you what object do you have that inspires you?

K: An object that I have is a sorority paddle that my best friend gave to me.

G: okay, umm could you describe the paddle?

K: It is purple with lots of glitter and a unicorn and the name of our sorority which is Delta Phi Epsilon and my position in the sorority at the time which was member at large.

G: okay, what is the inspirational aspect about this object?

K: umm, it is just a reminder of how all the stuff that I did for the sorority and how much hard work I put into it. And just if I work really hard I can you know get to wherever I want to be.

G: umm, you said that your best friend gave you this paddle did that have something to do with the inspirational aspect as well?

K: yeah, cause she is always kind of my cheerleader so it’s good to know there is always somebody, somebody that believes in me.

G: Could you maybe describe it size wise and uses of the paddle? Just so I understand what. . .

K: It is not used to hit people with it is used for decoration. Umm it’s how big that is?

G: It is about two feet high and six inches wide?

K: okay,

G: so it’s basically just a decorative plaque almost

K: yes!

G: Thank you, is there anything else that you would like to tell me about the object? The inspiration about the object that you haven’t yet told me about? Anything else? Is it inspiring because it was your sorority, inspiring, you said it was because you can look at it a see the work you have done. Is there anything else inspiring I guess is what I meant to ask? Like can you look at it and look back and be like I am proud I was in this sorority or this sorority inspires me?

K: It’s like an all encompassing kind of I guess object or image that is that shows you know how much work I put into it cause it was three years that I spent in it and it’s a good reminder of all the work that I did. All my memories.

G: Thank you!
