Learning and Development Progress Summary for 2 year olds

Why are we required to undertake a Two-Year-Old Progress Summary?

·  To enable Early Years practitioners to identify the development needs of their two year olds early, so that additional support can be put in place

Who needs to undertake the Progress Summary?

·  A child’s Keyperson

When do we need to do it?

·  Between 2 years 3 months and 2 years 6 months (27 – 30 months)

(4.3 page 15)

What is it?

A progress summary covering the three EYFS prime areas of learning (Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language Development and Physical Development) completed by keyperson and which other colleagues who know the child (or other professionals) and child’s parents / carers contribute to. The Progress Summary:

·  Identifies where a child is in their learning and development and whether he/she is developing at a faster or slower pace than what would be expected for his/her age.

·  Can support practitioners to identify the need for early intervention, actions to be taken and possible next steps for the setting and at home

·  With parents’/carers’ permission can be shared with other professionals (4.4 page15)

How do we do it?

·  Based on every day observations / learning stories of what child can do consistently and independently

·  Highlights skills, knowledge, understanding and behaviour that the child demonstrates consistently and independently

·  Takes account of children’s interests and fascinations

·  Takes account of views and information gathered from practitioners/other professionals, parents/carers and the children
