April 27 Annual Meeting features new location,

innovative program, and Board elections

You’ve completed a living will, advance directive, and power of attorney. You’ve selected a funeral director. Perhaps you have recorded detailed instructions in the “Before I Go, You Should Know” kit in your freezer. But you live alone. What happens if you are unconscious when emergency personnel arrive? How can you be sure your instructions will even be read, let alone followed?

At the suggestion of several members, this year’s annual meeting will focus on those questions and precautions you can take to ensure that your “last wishes” don’t become “lost wishes.” The panel will include emergency responders from the City of Pittsburgh: Floyd "Skip" McCrea, Inspector, Bureau of Fire; William Bochter, Assistant Chief/Operations, Bureau of Police; and Dr. Roy E. Cox, Jr., Patient Care Coordinator, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. Regulations may vary somewhat in other municipalities, but we are confident that the information shared will be helpful to us all.
The Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, which prepares students for careers in funeral service, has offered its newly renovated facilities in East Liberty for the meeting. Free parking is available in the PIMS lot, between the school at 5808 Baum Boulevard (near the intersection of Negley Avenue) and Whole Foods. (Detailed directions are on the PIMS web site at or call the school at 412-362-8500.)

Tours of the PIMS facility will be offered between 1 and 2 p.m. and also after the program. The business meeting and election will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the program and time for audience questions. Light refreshments will be served. The meeting is free and open to the public.
