LANDFILL GAS PERIMETER PROBE/LANDFILL GAS SYSTEM MONITORING INSTRUMENT

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SCOPE

A.  This Section covers the minimum requirements for the supply of a landfill gas perimeter probe/landfill gas control system field monitoring instrument and accompanying hardware and software.

B.  It is the intent of these Specifications that the landfill gas perimeter probe/landfill gas control system field monitoring instrument be intrinsically safe and accompanying hardware, software be assembly by an ISO 9001:2000 certified manufacture.

1.2 APPLICATION

A. The gas monitoring instrument shall be suitable for landfill gas perimeter probe and control system applications requiring a hand-held, self-contained, intrinsically safe, integrated electronic instrument that is capable of measuring barometric pressure, static pressure,differential pressure and gas constituents. The monitoring instrument shall be applicable for use with orifice plate or pitot tube flow devices and shall be equipped with hoses, filters, and quick connect fittings suitable for landfill gas use. All gas monitoring ports in the gas control system shall be compatible with the landfill gas monitoring instrument, and shall use quick connect fittings.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Prior to delivery, the Contractor shall submit to the Engineer for approval, a description of the equipment to be supplied. The description shall include the manufacturer's make, model number and technical specifications for related equipment required under this Section.

B. The equipment shall be supplied with the Manufacturer's Instruction Manual.

PART 2 - PRODUCT

2.1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A. The landfill gas monitoring instrument shall be a LANDTEC GEM 2000Ô Gas Extraction Monitor or an approved equal, designed specifically for landfill gas use, and shall include, at minimum, the following features:

2.2 EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED

A. The following equipment shall be supplied as a part of this section:

1) Landfill gas system field monitoring instrument

2) Battery charger

3) Hard carrying case

4) Soft carrying case

5) Computer downloading cable

6) Manufacturer's Instruction Manual

7)  Hoses, filters and fittings required for operation

8)  Instrument Communications software

2.3 LANDFILL GAS MONITORING CONNECTIONS

A. The monitoring instrument quick connect fittings shall be compatible with the LANDTEC Accu-FloÔ wellhead.

2.4 MATERIALS

A. This Article describes the acceptable materials and components of the gas extraction monitor.

B. Gas Path

1. Internal gas path materials shall be non-corrosive and suitable for use with landfill gas without deterioration, hardening or other failures. The sensor/detector mechanism shall not be subject to corrosion, deterioration, or poisoning due to landfill gas constituents.

C. External Gas Tubing

1. External tubing used to connect the landfill gas monitoring instrument with monitoring ports and wellheads shall be made of ¼ inch vinyl or other suitable non-reactive material.

D. Hose Connectors

1. Tube ends shall be fitted with a quick connect fitting. Fittings shall be polypropylene or chrome plated brass or approved equal.

E. Computer Cable

1. A computer connection cable with a USB connector on the computer end and a lemo connector on the instrument end shall be supplied.

F. Gas Line Filters

1. The instrument shall contain a replaceable in-line water trap with 99.9% removal efficiency on the external gas sampling hose and a replaceable internal 0.1 micron filter upstream of the sample chamber.

G. Batteries

1. Re-chargeable nickel-metal hydride batteries shall be used in the monitoring instrument.

2. A 110/230 VAC intelligent battery charger, 2000 milliamp output shall be supplied with the unit.

H. Case

1. The hard case shall be waterproof and weatherproof and capable of protecting the instrument from damage from a free-fall of 4 feet. The hard case shall be crush proof to 500 lbs.

2. A padded soft case for carrying the monitoring instrument in the field shall be provided.

I. Keyboard

1. The monitoring instrument shall have a weatherproof membrane keyboard.

2.5 PERFORMANCE

A. Gas Measurement

1. The instrument shall be capable of measuring 0%-100% concentrations by volume of methane, carbon dioxide, and 0-25% of oxygen with the following accuracy:

B. Barometric Pressure Measurement

1.  The barometric pressure transducer (not corrected for elevation) shall be capable of detecting barometric pressure with an accuracy ±1%.

C. Differential Pressure Measurement

1. The differential pressure transducer shall be capable of detecting pressure differences from 0.00-10.00 inches of water with a resolution of 0.001 and an accuracy of ±1%.

D. Static Pressure/Vacuum Measurement

1. The static pressure/vacuum transducer shall be capable of detecting pressure/vacuum from 0.0 to 100.0 inches of water with a resolution of 0.1 and an accuracy of ±1%.

E. Measurement Units

1. The landfill gas control system monitoring instrument shall be capable of working with the following units:

F. Alarms

1. The instrument shall have alarm modes for upper methane boundary and lower oxygen boundary. The boundary values shall be programmable by the user.

G. Memory

1. The onboard storage chips shall be capable of storing data for a minimum of 800 monitoring points.

2.6 EXPERIENCE

A. The equipment manufactor must be ISO 9001:2000 certified and have at least 8 years of proven landfill gas performance and have at least 1000 units in landfill service.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 PURCHASE

A. The Contractor shall supply the equipment as detailed in these Specifications at least four weeks prior to completion of the landfill gas collection system.

3.2 DELIVERY

A. The Contractor shall deliver the monitoring instrument with accessories and instruction manuals to a place and person designated by the Engineer.

3.3 ACCEPTANCE

A. This portion of the Contract shall be deemed complete when the pre-programmed hardware, software, and accessories specified in this Section have been delivered and accepted by the Owner.
