Job Title: Back Office Medical Assistant

Summary of Job Responsibilities for ______:

To Include But Not Limited To:

  • The role of this position is to participate in a variety of activities.
  • Rooms patients. Measures and records vital signs in chart.
  • Verifies ALL prescriptions and dosing. Verifies allergies.
  • Assists doctors when needed.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  • Gives injections, draws blood and performs routine laboratory tests (CBC’s and Sed Rates).
  • Teaches patients to give Enbrel and Humira injections.
  • Answers Lab messages in a caring manner and phones in prescriptions to Pharmacies.
  • Starts up CBC machine and put controls in when necessary.
  • Maintains the Lab when the Assistant Lab Tech is not in.
  • Keeps rooms stocked and orders pamphlets when necessary.
  • Fills out lab slips for the blood.
  • Writes Prescriptions for the doctor to sign when instructed to do so.
  • Fills out forms for authorizations for medications.
  • Orders supplies when necessary.
  • Refills prescriptions.
  • Records labs drawn in the computer.
  • Maintains confidentiality of records.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Verifies patient's insurance to know what facility to send their labs to.
  • Requests lab work and reports when necessary.
  • Schedules appointments for patients when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate, Phlebotomy and CPR certification.
  • Good hygiene.
  • Friendly demeanor.
  • Computer knowledge/typing.
  • Good verbal and written communication. Good spelling.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • All medical skills and knowledge required of a Medical Assistant.
  • Must have and maintain a State Phlebotomy License.
  • Able to be friendly, helpful and courteous to patients and on the phone.
  • Ability to identify specific parts of the medical record and identify where they should be located in the record.
  • Ability to understand and perform duties of position
  • Able to complete a complex variety of tasks in an organized manner.
  • Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures relating to position.
  • Ability to look aheadand plan work.
  • Able to draw blood and give injections.
  • Able to treat patients and staff with consideration and respect.
