Maintenance/Mechanical Engineer (industrial)

Salary: Very competitive. Paid per hour dependent on experience

Due to the company expansion M & N Electrical and Mechanical Services Ltd are seeking to employ full-time Mechanical Engineers/Mechanical Fitters to join their busy team servicing and repairing wastewater equipment for Water Utility companies across the UK.

We are seeking an apprentice trained or experienced Maintenance/Mechanical Engineers with environmental engineering experience maintaining industrial equipment, fault finding on heavy industrial machinery in a reactive industrial environment.

The Company will provide a service vehicle, basic PPE and specialist tools required to carry out the work. Travelling may be required which mayrequire staying away from Monday to Fridays. A willingness to work away from home and undertake overtime as required is essential.

The successful Maintenance /Mechanical Engineers (Mechanical Fitters) must have previous experience in anengineering plant environment carrying out the following:

  • Repairing
  • Fault finding down to component level
  • Break down cover on a Rota basis
  • Stripping and rebuilding machinery/ pumps/ heavy industrial equipment
  • Planned preventative maintenance (Industrial equipment & pumps)
  • Use of initiative and good team skills is essential to succeed in this maintenance position
  • Water industry/environmental experience desirable
  • Welding/fabrication and gas cutting experience desirable, TIG & MIG
  • HGV license desirable but not essential

Working week: 40 hours plus overtime. Overtime paid at time and a half. Travelling time paid.

Qualifications

  • Served a recognised mechanical apprenticeship

City & Guilds qualified or equivalent experience

  • Confined spaces to City and Guilds (desirable)
  • Banksman slinger/crane supervisor (desirable)
  • Manual handling qualification (desirable)
  • Welding qualification (desirable)
  • HGV Licence (desirable)

Knowledge & Skills

  • Sound knowledge of Industrial mechanical installation and maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of Health & Safety in connection with the construction industry(desirable)
  • Ability to record detailed and accurate repairs information relating to jobs
  • Access and interpret technical instructions using mobile electronic equipment
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work in a systematic and organised manner to ensure work is completed within set timescales
  • Ability to carry out site inspections and compile survey reports for quotation purposes
  • Carry out fault finding down to component level
  • IT literate – good computer skills

Experience

  • Ideally minimum of 5 years practical experience working on industrial equipment
  • Experience of working with a range of portable tools, small plant & equipment to enable work to be carried out
  • Installation, commissioning and setting up of mechanical /electrical equipment and controls
  • Basic electrical skills such as safe isolation, cable terminations, ganding off (desirable)

Interpersonal Skills

  • Able to communicate effectively to the customer and company management
  • To work as part of a team and to co-operate with other staff / trades
  • Conduct the work activities in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the company

Other Factors

  • Must hold current valid driving licence
  • Able to carry out work some distance from base which requires overnight stays
  • Able to work outside on sites which are connected with wastewater (sewage)
  • Capable of working at heights from scaffold platforms, ladders or mechanical equipment
  • Undertake training and work as part of a confined space team
  • Able to participate in repairs and maintenance out of hour’s emergency service when required
  • Able to carry out work tasks that involve physical strength, stamina, standing, kneeling or crouching
