Frequently Asked Questions

It’s very expensive this year?

This year we have managed to keep costs down so it is cheaper than it has been in the last 2 years.

The price includes:

Full use of all of the facilities at Brooksby Equestrian Centre

Stabling, bedding, hay or haylage is included in the price

A minimum of 4 hours teaching everyday which includes riding and stable management.

All meals /food provided for your child during their stay.

Eveningactivities.

Last day competition and prizes.

Are there any hidden costs?

You will need to provide your own hard feed for your pony

Due to the evening arrival on Monday we will be asking if each child could bring a plate of food for a late supper

Friends and family will be invited to a Family Evening on the Friday night where will be charging each family a small amount for a ticket just to cover the cost of providing a BBQ.

Is there an upper age limit of children attending?

There is no upper age limit. All members over the age of 12 are welcome and catered for.

Why does my child need to be 12 or over to attend Senior Camp?

The minimum age has nothing to do with ability but is all due to the Pony Club Safeguarding Policies.

Why is the QHPC Senior Camp more expensive than other camps?

There are 2 reasons for this:

Our Senior Camp is for 5 nights and 5 days whilst other Pony Clubs run shorter camps

Other Pony Clubs are very lucky that they are not charged by the owners of the facilitiesthat they use for their Senior Camp.

What are the overnight arrangements?

This year there will be 3 options:

  1. Your child will be able to camp with their friends either in a tent/horsebox/caravan in one of the paddocks. This camp site will be supervised all night.
  2. If your child prefers then we will be using some of the new classrooms as dormitories.Your child will need to bring a camp bed or something similar. These will be single sexed and supervised all night.
  3. If your child is not keen on sleeping away from home then this year we are offering that your pony stays at Brooksby but your child is collected each night after the evening activities have finished, sleeps at home and then is dropped off in the morning in time to feed their pony and have breakfast

If at any time during the week your child changes their mind about the camping or going home this can be accommodated.

I’m worried my child will struggle to look after their pony by themselves.

All of the children will be supported and supervised in the care of their pony by qualified staff at all times. If your child needs any help it will always be available.

I don’t think my child’s riding is good enough for senior camp/ my child is nervous about their riding abilities

Please be reassured that Senior Camp is suitable for children of all standards and a lot of time will be taken in putting your child in an appropriate group where their abilities and friendship groups will be considered. We have had children at Senior Camp in the past who haven’t jumped at all. Senior Camp is not all about jumping it’s about your childhaving fun with their pony and their friends.

I’m concerned about the welfare/safety of my child’s pony whilst it is staying away from home.

Fully qualified experienced staff from the Pony Club and Brooksby Equestrian Centre will be on site 24 hours a day.

My child is worried that they won’t know anyone at camp.

Camp is a great way to make new friends but I am sure that your child will already have met other children at Pony Club rallies throughout the year who will be attending Senior Camp.We will be holding a meeting before camp for parents and children which will give your child the opportunity to meet the other children who will be at Senior Camp. When the groups are decided on we will take into consideration their riding ability and their friendship groups.
