COURSE OBJECTIVES:To comprehend HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) in developing web pages

To acquaint with tables, frames, forms, and databases in a web page

  • To acquaint with XML (eXtensible Markup Language)
  • To acquaint with multimedia components in a web page
  • To acquaint with dynamic web pages using client-side scripts
  • To acquaint with web development tools such as FrontPage, Dreamweaver, Flash and PhotoShop

COURSE ACTIVITIES:The course will be taught mainly as a self-paced in-class application development format; although there will be some lectures. In addition, there will be homework assignments, group projects, and tests. The assignments will be from the texts mentioned above and will follow a schedule as mentioned in the next pages. There may be additional assignments as we progress throughout the semester. If a student cannot complete an in-class assignment on time, he/she must complete it within a deadline provided by the instructor.

All assignments must be organized in two folders within a student folder provided in a course web site. All assignments must also be organized in a home page for each student. Students should be ready to present their assignments whenever called.

GROUP PROJECT:

Students will work in groups to develop a business web site. Each group will make three PowerPoint presentations during the various phases of the web site development. They are:

  • Problem Definition (Concept): Describe the need of business for web presence and the proposed solution.
  • Web Site Architecture (Analysis & Design): Describe the overall architecture of the web site, which includes a visual depiction of navigation scenario to various web pages. Also describe the content of each web page and provide a design for each web page.
  • Web Site Demonstration (Development): After successfully completing the project, make a presentation of the live web site.

  1. Class attendance: Regular class attendance is expected (Rolls may be called).
  1. Missing Tests and Laboratories: Missing tests and laboratories will be counted as zero. Make-up of missing tests and any late submission of laboratory materials will be acceptable only under extreme emergencies.
