SPELLING BEE COMPETITION

Ira International School organized 9th Spelling Bee Competition on its 21st Foundation Day. 218 students from 29 schools of Nagpur participated inthiscompetition. Dr. Supantha Bhattacharya Head of English Dept, Hislop Collegewas the Judge of the Competition. The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Principal of Edify School Dr. Christopher Cutinoh,Mrs. Kalpana Jadhav HOD Physical Education Hislop college, Mrs. Nisha SarafDirector CDS School, Dr. Sara Chintanwala Renowned Psychologist, Mrs. Ushree Dutta Ex Vice Principal Hislop college . Mr. Manoranjan Singh Area Manager G Ram Books, Mr. Vinit Dwewedi Marketing Executive of G. Ram Books.

The programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp by the dignitaries. Followed by a prayer song and students of Ira also performed a dance on a melodious tune praising the Lord.

The first round was elimination round. From this round 10 students qualified for the second round. In the second round participants had to spell the words and the synonym as well correctly. Out of this 5 students performed excellently at par and were selected for the 3rd round Which was the ladder round. The competition had the words like Anpullaceous, Bacchanal, Jeopardi, Cacophony Cauterizewhich made the participants rack their brains to get them right. The final round had five words which were the most difficult to spell. Tejas S and Anshul Nasery both of Civil Lines Bhavans were the contenders of this round. Anshul Nasrey of Bhavan’s Civil Lines was adjudged the winner for ‘Spelling Bee Competition 2014’ and the runner up was Tejas S of Bhavan’s Civil Lines.

Dr. Christopher CutinohPrincipal of EDIFY School addressed the students and stated that English is important language because it is the linguafranqua, that is the language of the world.Dr. Supantha also addressed the students and said that Spelling Bee Competition was Such a Platform were Students got to know the importance of the spellings. The Winner and the Runner up received the Trophies at the hands of Dr. Cutinoh and Dr. Supantha Bhattachary.

President of the School Mrs. Rimple Lohia Congratulated the staff of Ira for conducting the programme successfully on and also wished them for the foundation day.

The vote of thanks was given by Principal Mrs. Reena Dargan. She thanked all the guest teachers and their respective Principals for sending their schools for the competition and the dignitaries who graced the occasion. The Competition concluded with a parting song. The programme was anchored by Mrs. Schanchita Brahmachari.
