Invitation for expressions of interest to

Deliver a Training and Development Programme

for Age UK Wakefield District

Working with senior staff and delivery staff the successful applicant will develop a Training and Development programme across four key areas:

  1. Information and Advice
  2. Outcomes based evaluation
  3. Staff development
  4. Social Work Student oversight

We anticipate that this work will take place over a twelve month period, enabling the charity to implement an effective and integrated training programme within the organisation.

Expressions of interest will be accepted from individuals who can demonstrate:

  • An in depth knowledge of the health and social care arena for VCS organisations
  • Previous experience of planning and delivering training at undergraduateor post graduate level
  • An understanding of the value of a staff development programme, (depending on experience it is not anticipated that you will personally deliver any / all the modules)
  • An understanding of the value of outcomes based evaluation and its applications
  • An understanding of the necessity for ongoing monitoring and evaluation
  • The ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
  • An understanding of the value of volunteering
  • The desire to contribute to the growth and development of Age UK Wakefield District at a strategic level.

1 Information and Advice

Working closely with Information Services staff at Age UK Leeds and

Age UK Wakefield District to:

-Create a coordinated training programme that will deliver to national standards, (using the Age UK Information Services toolkit)

-Expand the existing I&A teams through the training programme

-Enable the developmentof delivery standards through effective training.

-Enable the teams to meet new national quality standards around training

2 Outcomes Based Evaluation

Developing the use of ‘leaf’, Age UK Wakefield District’s in house evaluation tool to:

-Broaden the scope of its use across Yorkshire and Humber Age UK’s

-Revise the existing tool in line with user feedback

-Work closely with Leeds Metropolitan University to develop the tool validation process

-Ensure that data collation is effective

3 Staff Development

Develop a joint training programme with staff across Age UK Wakefield District and Age UK Leeds to ensure that all staff are involved in a rolling programme of training including:

-Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults

-Understanding Dementia

-Managing Lone Working

-Older People and Nutrition

-Working with Volunteers

4 Social Work Student Oversight

Age UK Wakefield District currently hosts an annual cohort of undergraduate Social Work students from four different universities; we are looking to expand this programme and need to ensure excellent oversight and coordination.

The successful applicant will:

-Work with existing staff to develop a robust and comprehensive training programme

-Liaise with the Practice Based Supervisor to ensure that student’s key objectives are identified and met

-Offer support to senior I&A staff and other managers to ensure that the student’s experience is positive and meets expectations

-Where appropriate support some supervision activity.

The organisation has budgeted £20,000 for this activity and would anticipate that flexible working patterns would deliver an average of four days work per week over the time period. Applicants would be eligible to participate in the organisation’s pension scheme.
