Introduction and Course Description

This two semester course focuses on American literature. Students will read classic literature and a contemporary. Additionally, critical writing and reading skills are emphasized so that I may prepare your child for college. Each nine weeks will be rich in various genres of literature, to include the following: poetry, drama, non-fiction, fiction, short stories, and memoirs.

Regular English III Grading Guidelines:

Daily: 50%

Tests: 30%

9 Weeks Test: 20%

Plagiarism

The English III classes will strictly adhere to an honor code and rules outlined in the school handbook. All students are expected to do their own work. If a student breaks this code, particularly with instances of plagiarism, the student will not receive credit on the assignment.

Assignments

Students are responsible for completing all assignments given. Major assignments to be turned in on the date due and daily assignments on the assigned date. If a student is absent on the day an assignment is given, he/she will need to make arrangements to receive the lesson and do the assignment. That means assignments merely copied from a classmate will not be accepted. Students should inform the teacher if an absence is expected; however, this does not excuse a student from an assignment or a deadline. Students involved in school activities must arrange in advance for lessons to be received in advance (or made-up). Additionally, assignments related to a particular lesson must be completed. Work turned-in a day late will earn a “50” at best.

Tutoring: Tutoring will be on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00-8:35.Arrive to school with enough time to have breakfast or to bring it to class during this time. Please do not bring a friend.Students needing to make-up work are urged to receive this service. Additionally, EoC re-testers should also take advantage of this opportunity. Resist the urge to use your phone or other device during tutoring times in A208.

STUDENT ID POLICY:

Students must have their ID visible at all times.
