FORMATTING TIPS (delete this helper once your Works Cited is complete)

  • Often when students export their Noodletool’s Works Cited list or paste it into an existing document, some of the formatting is lost. Thiscan happen if you export it to Word or Google Docs or other word processors. Returning to correct paragraph formatting is easier to achieve in Word, but it works in Google Docs also.
  • Works Cited lists use a hanging indent like the sample entries above. In Word, you would just right click over a citation, click on paragraph in the popup menu, and then change the settings under Indentations/Special to “Hanging.” In the same settings box, set the number to the right of the word hanging to .5 and, if necessary, below that set the line spacing to Double. Now exit and you should have MLA formatting again.
  • For those using Google docs, it might be easier to use this template to write your paper. Because I inserted a page break before writing this Works Cited example, this page will always be the last page of your paper. When you are ready to add your works cited, export it from Noodletools to Google docs, select the works cited text, and copy it over this text in this document. If students attempt this before a paper is due, I can help, but once your paper is turned into Turnitin.com it is a little late.
