Institute for Economies in Transition

Institute for Economy in Transition:located in Moscow, founded in 1990 by the Academy for the National Economy (Russian Government), Center for Socio-Economic Studies (Poland), and the French Institute for Economic Situation Studies (France). It describes itself as an 'independent, non-commercial research organization which consults Russian state agencies on 'economic growth in economies in transition, public finance, monetary and currency exchange policies, privatization policies, corporate finances, restructuring and institutional reform.'

The Institute provides consulting services to federal and regional authorities on the following issues:

* Taxation and budgetary policy;

* Fiscal federalism;

* Corporate governance;

* Social policies and pension reform;

* Customs Code;

* Agricultural reform and economic policy

I recommend looking at their list of partners ( Domestically, these guys have it in with several of Russia's economics and development-oriented ministries. Internationally, they have connections with the World Bank, USAID, several research institutions,

They have posted all of their publications online at: Seems like they're published articles on every aspect of Russian economy (from labor economics all the to monetary policy).

Interestingly enough, a USAID project that was launched in July 2000 hopes to develop the institute into a 'leading market-oriented economic think-tank in Russia that can develop proposal s on economic reform' (2).

Also noteworthy is that its Director of Reseach is YegorGaidar, former Russian PM and economics whiz. I Googled their other directors and, if their research interests say anything, the institute is very focused on market economics (I mean, they have a freakin’ Adam Smith prize that they award)
