Installing Lesson Packs for Edusim Software

(You must first install Edusim Software – see Edusim article on TICK)

  1. Go to and find the Lesson Packs for download.
  2. Download the lesson pack you want by saving it to your desktop (or other location you’ll remember).
  3. When you’ve downloaded the file, you’ll see a zip folder containing the files you need. (See below.)

  1. Extract the files from the zipped folder by right-clicking on the folder and choosing “Extract All...”
  2. In this example, I’ve extracted the Butterfly_Lifecycle-Lesson. I can now see an unzipped folder of the same name.

  1. Open the unzipped folder. Inside, you’ll find another folder with the same name that contains the “cache” files.

  1. Copy the Butterfly_Lifecycle-Lesson folder (or the folder that corresponds with the lesson you’re opening.)
  2. Open your Edusim_On_Cobalt_01 folder, which you downloaded when you installed the Edusim software. You’ll see a list of files in this folder, including a “cache” folder and the Edusim batch file. Paste the Butterfly_Lifecycle-Lesson folder here.

  1. If you want to load the Butterfly lesson, rename the “cache” folder in the Edusim_On_Cobalt_01 folder “cache-base.”

  1. Now, go into the Butterfly_Lifecycle-Lesson folder and copy the “cache” folder.

  1. Paste “cache” folder into the Edusim_Cobaly_01 folder. You should see something like this:
  1. Open the Edusim software by double-clicking on the Edusim batch file.
  2. When the Edusim window opens, click the button that says “click here to start Edusim.”
  1. At the top, you’ll see a menu “Place.” In that menu, go to “Load New World Lesson” and click on “World Lesson From Local Disk.”
  1. Type in the file name WisconsinWorld.c3d. (This is the file name in the cache folder. Since Edusim looks in the folder with the title “cache,” you’ll need to know what .c3d file name you need. Simply open the cache folder and look for the file extension .c3d and look at the file name.)
  1. After a few seconds of load time, you’ll see this.
  1. Navigate by using the arrows at the bottom right through the window. Keep walking forward and until you see a waterfall. Rotate your view around (using the Q on your keyboard) and find this beginning of a lesson on the lifecycle of butterflies.
  1. You can now explore this world, add your own pictures, objects, and information with a little tutoring from the Edusim user’s forum at
