SPECIAL EXAM DAY INFORMATION

Based on sufficient interest, SFD organises a day annually for candidates who are unable to participate in examinations with their school. Please be advised that the Special Exam Day for 2014 will be on Sunday 9th November 2014. Please notify the Exam Co-ordinator by Friday 19thSeptember 2014 or earlier if possible should you have students who wish to attend this day. Southern Federation of Dance will then send out the timetable and venue details for the day.

TEACHING CERTIFICATE COURSEEXAMS & TIMING

Participants of the Teaching CertificateCourse, please note thatexams have been set for Saturday 4th and Sunday5thOctober 2014. Please advise Head Office if your students plan on attending. Another session will be offered in March 2015. The precise date will be advised later in the year.Interstate students will need to schedule their individual exams during their own school’s exam session.

MASTERCLASSES VICTORIA

Thank you to the many schools and members who attended our annual Masterclasses in May & June. It is always a great opportunity for the students to receive feedback directlyfrom Examiners. We hope your students benefited from this day.

LEVEL 10 JAZZ OR TAP AND ADVANCED CLASSICAL EXAMINATIONS VICTORIA

If you have a student or students to be examined in any of the above styles in 2014, please notify the Exam Co-ordinator either by writing to P.O. Box 2218, Rowville3178 or via email to by 31st August 2014 or earlier if possible. They will be examined on Sunday 12th October 2014.

Please include:- Candidate name / s (with exact spelling)

- Style to be examined in

- Payment as listed under the Exams section, headed Examination Fees (footer E 1.8) of the 2014 SFD Manual

SFD RELATED MARKETING MATERIAL

Please note that Southern Federation of Dance reserves the right to approve any marketing material that contains the SFD logo or endorses the SFD syllabus. We maintain the right to protect members’ interests by viewing proposed marketing products that feature our logo and request that anything please be forwarded to Head Office prior to being produced and distributed.

SFD CONVENTION 2015

Due to the success of the Convention at Dance World Studios in January, it has again been booked for our Convention in 2015. To allow for planning ahead by members, we are happy to provide the dates for the next Convention, which will be from Thursday 15th January to Tuesday 20th January 2015.

CHOREOGRAPHIC COMPETITIONS

Please note that we are now accepting entries for our annual Choreographic Competitions. The competitions will be held on SUNDAY 19thOCTOBERat the South Oakleigh Secondary College Theatre in Oakleigh South and entries are due at Head Office by Friday 29th August, 2014. Registrations can only be made online at

All rules and section codes are available on the comps-online website. Please keep encouraging your students to work on their dances - solos, duos, trios and troupes, in all styles. Students are not judged on technique, only on their choreographic skills – please remember it must be the students’ own work and no teacher input is allowed.

A reminder that it is crucial that music is limited to the following:

SOLOS, DUOS & TRIOS (all sections)TROUPES

Two (2) minutes maximum for all age groupsFive (5) minute maximum

COMPETITIONS

A big thank you to parents, teachers, students and friends who volunteered their time to help out at the recent Comps. Our competitions are growing bigger every year and the continual smooth running of the competitions would not occur without helpers! A special thank you to those teachers and parents who volunteered extra time when the rostered person did not attend!

EXAMINATION CERTIFICATE AMENDMENTS

As per the ‘Examination Recommendations’ guidelines, any teacher requesting amendments to certificates must notify the office IN WRITING of any changes and include payment of $11.00 per certificate for replacements.

Changes include:

• Candidate name spelling
• Incorrect levels
• Change of dates
• Changes due to illegible writing.

Exam confirmation sheets should be typed or written in block letters as the writing on certificates is taken directly from these forms.

All amendments will be processed after 1st October, and collated for distribution to members via the Examiner. NO AMENDMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED ON THE DAY.

Examiners may use spelling corrections offered on the day for their written reports.
