IAA 2012 - Show starter with Let’s go ECO!

BPW sets the tone for tomorrow's trailer running gear

Hanover/Wiehl, 2012/09/19 ---Economical and environmentally-friendly driving are the key words at the stand of BPW Bergische Achsen KG in Hall 26. Whether ECO Vision, ECO Tronic TCONTROL or ECO Air COMPACT - with its innovative innovations, BPW is delivering proof positive for the economical and ecological possibilities of the trailer:

  • With the axle beams of the ECO Vision made from GFRP (glass fibre-reinforced plastic), BPW is taking a completely new approach in the trailer market. By using the ultralight GFRP material, it has been possible to reduce the weight significantly. This offers trailer manufacturers completely new possibilities for CO2-friendly and economical driving. ECO Vision will be awarded the Trailer Innovation Prize on 21 September 2012.

Based on the GFRP module, BPW has also developed an ECO Vision E concept study that can be implemented as a trailer with autonomous energy properties. The close-to-reality solution is based on products that are available today. This is made possible using generators that are installed in both hubs of the ultralight GFRP module from BPW. The recovered energy powers initially the electrical loads of the lighting systems, the electronic and the compressed air system for the air suspension and the brake systems. The surplus energy obtained is stored in a battery. As well as the necessary inherent consumption, the generators can provide as much as 9 kilowatt hours of surplus electrical energy which can be used for customer-specific electrical components such as cooling units.

  • A new solution for all commonly encountered vehicle types makes the running gear even more intelligent and increases efficiency in fleet management. Together with idem GmbH, BPW will in future be offering the telematics application, ECO Tronic TCONTROL, with integrated tyre pressure monitoring. It is possible to access important information at any time concerning the vehicle location, refrigerator system activity, door movements, etc. This can be done quickly in real time via the BPW TCONTROL app.
  • BPW is publishing the BPW Mobile app right on time for the start of the IAA. The new iPhone application is now available for Android smartphones and gives mobile phone users access to all important product and company information. The comprehensive BPW service station search function with integrated route finding represents a special feature.

In addition, BPW is presenting the new ECO Air COMPACT running gear system with a completely newly developed air suspension and innovative, lightweight air tanks as well as ECO Turn, the steered trailing axle, which is now maintenance-free. The ECO Air VARIO modular air suspension and the ECO Wheel aluminium forged wheel with new surface finishes are being presented to the general public for the first time.

Events

The start of the IAA also coincides with the firing of the starting gun for the final of the international ECO Disc Challenge. On Saturday, 22 September 2012, the search for Europe's fastest disc changers will reach its culmination live on the innovation stage of the IAA. Teams from eight different countries have pre-qualified for the competition.

Every day, live demonstrations in the paddock of the IAA will present the functions and benefits of the LL steered trailing axle, which is also being exhibited on the BPW stand C 31 in Hall 26.
