Human Rights Day Jeopardy Challenge Questions

Human Rights Day Jeopardy Challenge Questions

A World in Jeopardy (PowerPoint version 1.1): Rules

Format:

  • Each row of students in the class is a team. (Ask people to move if necessary to balance out the rows.)
  • The competitors for the first question are only the first persons in each row. The second question goes to just the second person in each row, etc.
  • At the start of the game, one team will be selected to choose the first question. Following that, whoever answers the last question chooses the next one. If no one answers, pick a team other than the one that asked the last question.
  • Keep score on the blackboard.
  • PowerPoint play: from slide 2 (the game board), click the chosen square to seethe answer, then click again to see the question. Then click the Oxfam logo (top left corner) to return to the game boardfor the next turn.

Providing Questions for each Answer:

  • All responses must be given in the form of a question: who is/was, what is, when was etc. Since some questions are numerical, you can accept values plus or minus a certain margin (indicated on the answer slide).
  • Of the competitors for the current answer, the first one to shout “Jeopardy” gets to guess the question.
  • An incorrect response will result in points being deducted from the team’s overall score, although not into the negative numbers (not below zero).
  • If none of the current competitors wants to guess the question, you can make it an open question to the class (for points/loss, or just for fun).
  • After each question, be sure to say a few sentences about the significance of the issue the question is based on.

Daily Doubles:

  • On a Daily Double, the contestant can bet any amount of their total score.
  • Only the team who selects the daily double can try to guess the question. If that team answers incorrectly, the other teams can’t try to guess the question.

Final Jeopardy:

  • Final Jeopardy ends the game. You get to this final question by typing 99 and then <Enter>.
  • In Final Jeopardy, contestants are given a category to wager on before actually seeing the question. Teams will be given a sheet of paper and marker to write down their wager before the answer is displayed.Contestants then have a few moments to confer with their team and write down their response before the correct question is revealed.
