How to Throw an Easter Party

Every party will look different, this is just to get you started and excited 

  • Pray
  • Ask the Lord for guidance and wisdom on who He wants you to invite to host with you as coming together as a team is a beautiful picture of the church body, using our gifts for His glory.
  • Ask God to show you WHO to invite. Pray He will give you eyes and a heart for those around you in your neighborhood, in your kids’ school or in an area of town that needs the love of Jesus
  • Determine where to have your party. Some ideas:
  • In your own backyard (or front yard)
  • Park
  • Email Caroline Hermann Caroline Hermann as she has the google doc of who all is wanting to gather in each neighborhood
  • Invite
  • Download invitations from the website or email to customize them for you. You can print them 2 to a page at copy corner on cardstock, print them yourself or email them to guests.
  • Start inviting and bring a stack with you to the park, on walks, to pick up your kids from school so that you have them accessible as the Spirit leads you to invite those you just meet as well.
  • Prepare with your team
  • Email Adrianna Hinds and she will check a set of resurrection eggs out to you
  • Divide up tasks with your small group or neighborhood friends:
  • Snacks
  • Paper goods
  • Drinks
  • Coordinating college volunteers
  • Games
  • Easter egg stuffing
  • Hiding eggs
  • Share the gospel through story time and resurrection eggs
  • Follow up team
  • Find a time the week before to all pray with your hostess team and stuff eggs. Whoever is in charge of egg stuffing can coordinate everyone bringing a few bags of candy. Easter eggs can be bought in bulk or everyone can bring some. Every party is different but you can plan to prepare for 20 eggs a child.
  • PARTY time
  • Set out food, game stations, décor before the party begins
  • PRAY like crazy that the Spirit moves and people come and get the chance to believe in the most life transforming truth
  • Give college or high school volunteers specific jobs to be in charge of (certain games, hiding the eggs, craft tables). They want to be put to work but be specific as kid parties may be new to them.
  • The party agenda could be ANYTHING you want it to be but here is an example of an hour and fifteen minute party
  • 3:30 – (15 min) everyone arrives and mingles, a game can be going on for kids to jump in and feel included
  • 3:45 – (30 min) begin more games and explain craft tables (stations that rotate are nice if you have a large party)
  • 4:15 - (10 min) SNACK time, have everyone grab a plate and sit down for story time
  • 4:25 – (20 min) as they eat, explain why we love Easter, a story and resurrection eggs and share the gospel (meanwhile, some volunteers will be hiding the eggs in a different part of the park/yard)
  • Give kids a chance to respond/ask questions, etc. while people refill their snacks/drinks
  • Announce about Backyard Bible Club and pass out info
  • 4:45 – (15 min) Easter egg hunt (it is nice to give the little kids a head start or else tell all to stop at 20 eggs, so big kids don’t take all the eggs)
  • 5:00 – party finishes and volunteers help clean up
  • Follow up
  • An important part is continuing to do life with the non-believers that come
  • I try to make it a goal for one of us that hosted the party to do a play date with the guests that I don’t know where they are spiritually the next week or so
  • The mom may have been exposed the gospel for the first time and we will have some good follow up resources for you as well.
  • Invite both believers and non-believers to church, your small group, next time your friends get together, moms night out, etc. so they feel a part of our church body
