Hello Hall Staff!

We need your help! Let’s work together to change the mindset about scholarships. Many students do not add up the real cost of college until after graduation. Whether the scholarship award is large or small, any amount can make a difference.

Our goal is to inspire students to invest time applying for scholarships and to equip them with the tools and resources needed by helping them:

Locate and apply for scholarships

Identify their strengths

Write and edit application essays

Develop resumes

Our Mission

UWL’s Scholarship Resource Center (SRC) encourages students to focus on alternative funding options that match up with their personal achievements and unique personalities. SRC is committed to helping students locate scholarships that fit their unique qualifications, educate them regarding submitting high quality applications and ultimately, see them further their education by receiving scholarships to fund that education.

Our Services for you:

1.  Pre-made bulletin board kits about scholarships

2.  Formal or informal presentations (List of presentation topics are included on the next page)

3.  Scholarship Application Worksheet for you to fill out with your residents. This form allows us to get background info and locate scholarships perfect for a student. Example: Left handed residents, short residents, tall residents, residents with red hair, knitters, former caddies.

Fall 2015 Presentation Options

1.  The Scholarship Search: With thousands of scholarship resources available, we know there is a lot of information for students to sift through to find scholarships that are their best fit. We realize that searching alone can cost time as well as cause frustration when students aren’t able to find scholarships information easily. In this session, we will work with students to identity databases and resources to help them find scholarships.

2.  Research & Personal Statements: Are you worth investing a $20,000 scholarship in? Of course you are! In this session, we will work with students on researching the companies or organizations that are offering scholarships and how to convince those companies or organizations to invest in them!

3.  Scholarship Apps & Your Future Career: Did you know that scholarship awards look amazing on your resume? Or that you might need a resume for a scholarship application? The SRC and Career Services are partnering up in this presentation to show you how scholarship applications are a great way to prepare yourself for your future job search.

4.  Scholarship Writing Workshop: A great intro to another great resource on campus. Writing Center mentors will go through dos and don’ts of essay writing and help students start to edit essays if they choose to bring a sample of their writing.

5.  UWL Foundation Scholarships: A combination of the above presentations, this session will focus on the scholarships specific to UWL students through the UWL Foundation. Help your residents get a jump on the application process that opens October 1st and closes February 15th!

Tips for you to help your student be successful in the scholarship hunt:

Stress student loans as a last resort. Scholarship apps before loan apps!

Be an active participant in developing your resident's scholarship game plan.

Remind your residents that there is value in their effort and it will pay off!

Encourage your resident to set aside time each week to apply.

Assist with organization and deadline reminders
