Notes on Rating Criteria

  1. Each of the four categories should be rated from 1-5. 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest. Half points are acceptable but they should not go below 1.0 or above 5.0.
  2. Ratings should be relative to ALL players in your ENTIRE division. Not just to your team and not just to your age group.
  3. Do not overthink the ratings. Go with your gut instinct.
  4. For the skills categories (Fielding, Hitting and Throwing…not Attendance), approximately 20% of the players in each division should be 5.0, 20% should be 4.0 and so on. This should yield an average rating of approximately 3.0. Some teams will be higher and some will be lower.
  5. IF YOUR TEAM WON YOUR DIVISION, YOUR TEAM AVERAGE SHOULD BE ABOVE 3.5. That does not mean you can’t have any 1.0 players but on average your team should be stronger players. Likewise, if you finished last in your division, you may have 5.0 players but on average your ratings should be closer to 2.5.
  6. IF YOU SCORED THE MOST RUNS IN THE DIVISION AND/OR ALLOWED THE FEWEST RUNS IN THE DIVISION, YOUR CORRESPONDING CATEGORIES SHOULD BE ABOVE 3.5. This does not mean you can’t have 1.0 rated individuals in those categories but on average you should be at/near the top in those categories. Likewise if you scored the fewest runs in the division and/or allowed the most runs in the division.
  7. IF YOU HAD A SPECIFIC PLAYER WHO BATTED IN YOUR TOP FIVE ALL SEASON, PLAYED SS EVERY INNING, NEVER SAT OUT ON DEFENSE and/or PITCHED A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF INNINGS, THOSE INDIVIDUALS SHOULD BE RATED AT LEAST 4.0 IN THE SPECIFIC CATEGORIES. This does not mean they can’t be rated lower in other categories but their season stats indicate they would stronger players in the division. Likewise, if a specific player batted near the bottom of your order, played OF, sat two innings every game and/or you never considered having them pitch, they should be rated at 2.0 or below.
  8. We do validate ratings for each team using criteria from point 5-7 above. If any ratings are determined to be grossly out of line, they will be adjusted…and you may not like the results.
