The shooting of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo sparked off the first world, which led to Hitler’s rise to power, world war II and the atomic bomb to be being dropped on Hiroshima. The Bosnian student who shot the Archduke happened to be in a cafe eating a sandwich, when he saw the Archduke driving past him – and took the opportunity to shoot him dead. If he had not been in that cafe, maybe 2 world wars and a nuclear bomb would not have happened.

Alexander Fleming discovered antibiotics when by chance he left the window open in his lab, and some mould flew in. It landed on the petri dish where Alexander was growing bacteria, hoping to find something that would kill bacteria and so cure infections. The mould that landed on the dish did stop the bacteria from growing. This allowed Alexander to develop penicillin, which has saved many thousands of lives .

The Mongols were a ruthless and vicious people from Mongolia who rampaged through China, Russia, the Middle East, Austria, and Polandruthlessly killing and destroying everything in their path. They were about to invade Germany and wipe out the whole of the Western Christian Empire, when the Mongol’s leader back home died. According to Mongol traditions, all the Mongols had to return home for the burial and thus Europe was saved from being destroyed by the Mongols.

The persecution of the early Christians by the Romans, which made them escape to other countries, so spreading the Christian faith to these places, which would otherwise never have heard of Jesus.

St Paul was a over-enthusiastic Jew who would have just continued doing damage to the early Christian Church, arresting Christians…if God had not spoken and appeared to him in a bright light. As a result of God’s intervention. Saul became St Paul, and gave us a lot of our understanding about who Jesus really is - the humble Saviour, who died for everybody equally, so we could have His eternal life. If it wasn’t for St Paul, perhaps we would never have understood the importance of Jesus… and Christianity would not be such a global religion, thanks to his missionary journeys establishing churches all over Europe.
