What is it?

The Freedom programme is a educational, domestic abuse model that is based on the Duluth model of power & control; written by Pat Craven.

Who's it for?

This 2 day training is appropriate for

any professional working with any adults, children &/or young people, male or female ie family support workers, social workers, teachers, health visitors, police, midwives, outreach workers, probation officers, youth workers, mental health workers...

managers in supervisory positions of staff in the above

What are the Learning Outcomes?

The Freedom Programme training increases awareness of the complexity & depth of domestic abuse.

Gives better understanding of the impacts of domestic abuse on children & young people, from pre birth onwards.

Increases skills in identifying what underpins the behaviours manifested & to have a clearer understanding of the barriers that victim/survivors have, to leaving an abusive relationship or engaging effectively withprofessionals.

How does it fit in my practice/service?

The Freedom programme can be used with your service user's in a group setting or as an awareness raising tool to inform your practice.

With average statistics being 1 in 4 of us will suffer domestic abuse in our lives, this isn’t just for teams working specifically in the area of domestic abuse. There is a high correlation of the presence of domestic abuse in child death Serious Case Reviews, domestic abuse should be on everyone’s agenda & the Freedom Programme gives us the tools to address & work with it, effectively.
