Introduction

A Global Nomad or Third Culture Kid (TCK) is a person of any age or nationality who has lived a significant part of his/her developmental years in one or more countries outside his/her passport country because of a parent's occupation. Children raised as global nomads can be the offspring of diplomatic, international business, government agency, international agency, missionary, or military personnel, or indeed of people living internationally mobile lives for any professional reason.

Clark University hosts this conference annuallyto support, encourage, connect, and challenge those who identify as TCKs or Global Nomads and to provide resources to university faculty and staff who work with TCKs. All are welcome to attend!

The 2016 Conference Theme

Redefining Home: Evolving Identities in a Global World. We welcome conference presentation proposals from TCK students, TCK alumni, and university faculty/staff related to this theme. In developing this year’s conference theme, we recognized how each place we’ve been a part of has contributed to some aspect of our identity. We put great value in creating a safe, welcoming space for diverse narratives to be shared and common ground to be found. In previous years, topics have included:

  • Is This Just a “Cultural Difference?” TCKs’ Perspectives on Cultural Expectations.
  • A Mobile Sense of Home: Writing TCKs and Global Nomads into the Curriculum.
  • Where am I From? How TCKs See Their Passport Country.

Conference Location

Clark University, located in Worcester, MA, welcomes this 4th annual conference to campus, to the Higgins University Center. The address is 950 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01610. Ample parking is available on Main, Maywood, Woodland, Gates, and Florence Streets. Worcester is conveniently located on the MBTA commuter rail line, offering several trains to and from Boston each day.
