Back to 80s Friday, Patriotic Balloon Glow
Temecula, CA - "Baby I Can't Wait," as Nu Shooz the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival Back to the 80s Friday, June 2. It's an 80s revival with a list of bands that includes The Motels, Dramarama, Gene Loves Jezebel, Pretty Poison, Annabella's Bow Wow Wow, and Tommy Tutone. The 34th annual Festival opens Friday, June 2 at 3 p.m. and runs through Sunday June 4.
The Motels, a new wave and alternative rock band, had a string of hits from 1979 to 1987 including "Only the Lonely," "Suddenly Last Summer," and "Remember the Nights." Nu Shooz, hit its stride with songs "I Can't Wait," "Point of No Return," and "Are You Looking for Someone Nu." From across the pond, Gene Loves Jezebel's top hits in both the United Kingdom and the United States "Jealous," "Joesphina," "Bruises," "The Cow," and "Desire."
Dramarama is best known for the 1985 hit "Anything, Anything (I'll Give You)", which was featured on the "Nightmare on Elm Street 4." Annabella, lead singer of Bow Wow Wow will bring their biggest hit "I Want Candy" to the stage. One-hit stars of the 80s included in the lineup are Pretty Poison, "Catch Me (I'm Falling,)" and Tommy TuTone "867-5309."
In the wine gardens at approximately 8:30 p.m. the Festival's evening balloon glow begins with several never-before-in-Temecula balloons. Bimbo Bakeries will sport their specialty shape. Folds of Honor and the RiteAid Foundation are bringing the DreamShip balloon to Temecula for its first west coast appearance.
A hot air balloon created from the illustrations by children of fallen and disabled military heroes, the DreamShip is a floating inspiration. Of the 400 panels on the balloon, 130 have these Folds of Honor scholarship recipients' images of what they want to be when they are grown. Folds of Honor in partnership with the RiteAid Foundation provides educational support and scholarships for spouses and families of America’s fallen and disabled service members.
Pechanga Resort & Casino will be showing off their new hot air balloon with a gorgeous burgundy canopy with the resorts new branding. Pechanga Resort & Casino sponsors the Festival's main stage.
The Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival features dawn hot air balloon launches Saturday & Sunday, free morning tethered rides, premium wine tasting, microbrew tasting, food and wine pairing, chef demonstrations and beer and food pairing, as well as a full international food court, arts and crafts, and a kids faire. A DJ dance party closes out Friday and Saturday nights in the wine gardens.
